Best of Julian Edelman | Offense Defense & Special Teams Highlights | 2009-2015 – YouTube

Pretty much every play Edelman has ever made as a member of the Patriots. The most impressive might be how well he tackled when he was playing defensive back.

We know all the names of the old dynasty, but no one sums up the success of the 2010′s better than Edelman. He had 37 catches as a rookie then had just 32 over the next three years. Most guys would’ve faded out of the league, especially someone who didn’t even have an NFL position coming out.

Instead Edelman hung in there, fought through injuries and being down the depth chart, and capitalized on his chance in 2013, developing into the Wes Welker replacement that everyone thought Danny Amendola was supposed to be.

And then, he comes through with some of the most clutch catches in Patriots history in the Super Bowl, not to mention every other huge play he made every step of the way.

Cheers to Edelman, who now seems headed for the Pats Hall of Fame when it’s all said and done.

I’d love to see your take on the best throws of Brady’s career, top five or too ten.

July 10, 2015 by Mike Dussault

I know I’m going to miss some but here are a few that jump to mind.

1. 2006 AFC Divisional Playoff vs. SD – third down throw to Reche Caldwell to set up the GWFG. 49 yards on 3rd-and-10.

2. SB39 – Touchdown pass to David Givens – This pass always stood out to me as Brady went through all his progressions, then came back to Givens with an almost sidearm throw that was on the money.

3. 2014 AFCDG – GW Touchdown pass to LaFell. Just dead on at a critical moment.

4. SB49 – Amendola Touchdown Pass – Still amazed by the end zone view of this pass, just barely clearing the hands of four Seahawk defenders.

5. 2007 vs Giants – 50th TD Pass to Moss – Just a record-breaking bomb. Plenty to choose from in 2007 but let’s go with this one.

Couple others:

2011 GWTD vs. Cowboys to Aaron Hernandez. Just a perfect pass.

2013 GWTD vs. Saints to Kenbrell Thompkins. Perfectly placed laser.

If you could add one player from another team to the 2015 Pats squad to increase the chances for a 5th SB the most, who would it be? It has to be a defensive player, right? I’d have to go JJ Watt based on skill set, team need, locker room fit, etc.

Peyton Manning. Or Revis (ugh).

Kidding. Yeah, can’t go wrong with Watt, he’s a beast and right in my wheelhouse.

Who are you most excited to see in training camp, guys who could be making a significant jump this year?

July 10, 2015 by Mike Dussault

This is always the thing that no one really talks about. If you stunk at a position last year and don’t add a high-priced free agent you’re going to stink there again. But that’s why we play the long game with draft picks.

First on the list, to no one’s surprise, would have to be Dominique Easley. I think it will be pretty clear from the get-go if his explosiveness has returned.

Obviously, Logan Ryan and Malcolm Butler are guys that we really need to step up this year, but it’s hard to really get a read on cornerbacks until the real games. Was anyone really blown away by Revis or Browner in the preseason last year?

Lastly I’d put Sealver Siliga on there, assuming he’s recovered from injury. He’s certainly had his moments in the first two seasons that show potential, but he just hasn’t been able to string them all together due to various injuries. Can he step up and be the primary space eater inside now with Wilfork gone? Remember Wilfork wasn’t exactly the dominant player he became right out of the gate. I still have hope Siliga will be a significant part of the front this year.

Obviously there are quite a few others I am curious to see, but I think those four are the ones we most NEED to step up.

Best of the Belichick Era: Number 18 — Roman Phifer

Best of the Belichick Era: Number 18 — Roman Phifer

Not sure I’ve ever given Roman Phifer enough love here on this blog but Tom E. Curran does a nice job here, ringing in Phifer at #18. One of the unsung players of the dynasty defense, he set a standard what was not easy to replace, especially in the years 2005-2007 when they really didn’t have a linebacker who could cover anymore.

Top 3 improvements of the Patriots off-season

It’s hard to believe that training camp for the 2012 season opens in just six weeks. I haven’t even taken a voluntary look at any of the Super Bowl yet! Through free agency, the draft and now OTA’s the Patriots have made some positive moves that should pay dividends in the fall and winter. As […]
