Please Tell Me Belichick is Calling Defensive Plays!

May 14, 2019 by Mike Dussault

According to a report from Ben Volin (so take it for what it’s worth) Bill Belichick will be the one to call the plays for the defense this year.

The buzz I am hearing from a league source is that Bill Belichick will simply call defensive plays himself this fall. This same source also told me Bielema would become defensive line coach, which I was going to write in this space before it was confirmed on Friday.

As we’ve seen plenty of times now from whenever he’s been miked up, Belichick takes the calm overseer role. He sticks his nose in here and there, mostly to tell people to do their job, but he takes in the big picture.

Patriots Add Inman to Intriguing Receiver Group

May 13, 2019 by Mike Dussault

There isn’t much assured after Julian Edelman when it comes to Patriots wide receivers, but after adding Dontrelle Inman they now have a fascinating array of options to play a new key role.

Here’s how the group of ten break down:

Rodney Harrison Voted Into Patriots Hall of Fame

May 7, 2019 by Mike Dussault

Rodney Harrison beat out Mike Vrabel and Richard Seymour to become the latest former member of the dynasty voted into the Patriots Hall of Fame. I’m going to be honest, I would’ve gone Mike Vrabel over him, but Rodney’s deserving nonetheless.

Let’s take a quick look back at Harrison’s tenure with the Patriots and the most memorable moments.

Patriots Set 2019 Schedule

April 18, 2019 by Mike Dussault

The Patriots’ 2019 schedule was released last night, always a nice point in the offseason when we can start making our gameplans for the fall.

Let’s take a dive in and break down the key parts of the slate and how things stack up for the Pats.

Patriots Need Immediate-Impact 2019 Draft Class

April 9, 2019 by Mike Dussault

Things can change pretty quick around Foxboro. Today’s malcontent superstar on another team is tomorrow’s Patriots reclamation project.

That’s why the glaring holes on the Patriots roster might be deceiving. But if we’re going off how things look today on April 9th, there’s more pressure than ever for them to get the most out of their team-leading 12 draft picks and sooner rather than later.

Gronk is gone, along with Trey Flowers. They’re starting over at left tackle for the second year in a row after spending 17 seasons with only two different starters. Julian Edelman, Devin McCourty and Patrick Chung will all be 32 or older for Week 1. Tom Brady will be a decade older than them.

The cupboards aren’t entirely barren, but if they’re going to squeeze a seventh ring out of this thing, it’s once again time to find some to-be legends. If anyone can do it Belichick can, but it’s sure not getting any easier.

How Will Belichick Rebuild Defensive Coaching Staff?

April 1, 2019 by Mike Dussault

Coming on the heels of Rob Gronkowski’s retirement, the abrupt departure of Greg Schiano just six weeks into his tenure as defensive coordinator was a second significant blow to the 2019 Pats process.

With Schiano leaving, speculation is that Belichick will be forced to take a more active role in the defense, something he certainly did early in Matt Patricia’s career.

Brian Flores was DC for just one season, but clearly brought his own unique personality to the defense. Patricia did the same before him, as did Dean Pees and Romeo Crennel before them.

The Post-Gronk Pats at Tight End

March 26, 2019 by Mike Dussault

After my too-long tribute to Gronk yesterday it’s now time to take stock of the Patriots without Rob Gronkowski. The formerly cap-strapped team now has $17.5 million in space, about as much as they started the offseason with.

There’s room for free agents and there’s definitely room for some draft picks. Let’s take a positional deep dive…who’s on the roster, the free agents available and the draft picks who would fit.

(no title)

It seems safe to say the level of animosity the Patriots harbor for the Colts is heightened after Sunday’s AFC title game, with the presumption that Indianapolis not only brought the issue of underinflated footballs to the NFL, but also leaked the information publicly to create a distraction and firestorm that ignited to the point […]
