BREAKING – James White announces retirement from football

August 11, 2022 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

After eight seasons in the NFL, James White has announced his retirement from football.

I had a gut feeling this might be it for White after he missed the first couple weeks of camp, now, he confirms that he is hanging them up.

New England will be in my heart forever. Thank you for unwavering support over the years. I am forever grateful.

This chapter has been one that I will cherish. I look forward to what is next. pic.twitter.com/8qd0FbA0tW

— James White (@SweetFeet_White) August 11, 2022

White, a fourth-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft became the go-to weapon for Tom Brady during the height of his career, most notably in Superbowl 51, where he scored 20 points in the unforgettable comeback win over the Atlanta Falcons, including the winning touchdown in overtime.

Nobody in New England will ever forget this moment. Thank you for everything, @SweetFeet_White ❤️💙 #ForeverNE pic.twitter.com/Nxk3k9ggbu

— PatsPropaganda (@PatsPropaganda) August 11, 2022

Unlike many players who come and go during a season, White has always been a Patriot, and never looked that likely to leave, even when Brady went to Tampa.

"As great of a player as James has been for us, he's an even better person."

— New England Patriots (@Patriots) August 11, 2022

He was and always will be one of my favorite players. Thank you sweet feet #28.

Patriots Tweets Of Note: Training Camp Day 11

August 9, 2022 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Today’s practice was brought forward to 12pm after forecasts showed thunderstorms were in the Foxborough area at 4pm, the original practice time. This would be the final public practice for the team before Thursday’s preseason game against the New York Giants.

Here are the Tweets Of Note from Patriots Training Camp Day 11!

Day 12 of Patriots camp

Absent: Isaiah Wynn

PUP: James White

NFI: Andrew Stueber

— Mark Daniels (@ByMarkDaniels) August 9, 2022

Devin Asiasi is back at practice after leaving early yesterday

— Zack Cox (@zm_cox) August 9, 2022

Isaiah Wynn was the only new player not present with Devin Asiasi returning after he left practice early yesterday.

#Patriots WR coaches were having a hard time delivering accurate passes to wideouts in practice yesterday. Just saw Jakobi Meyers throwing to fellow WRs in an individual drill on back corner routes.

— Doug Kyed (@DougKyed) August 9, 2022

There is some video evidence on Doug’s post chain and it’s not pretty viewing. I feel like this is such a simple thing to get right, and not something I’ve seen the coaches having issues with previously. Jakobi Meyers had to take throwing duties today for some of the individual drills.

I wonder if the team will bring in an additional QB as an extra thrower?

A scuffle broke out between O-linemen and D-linemen during a full-speed pass-blocking drill. Couldn't see what sparked it or who the principal parties were.

— Zack Cox (@zm_cox) August 9, 2022

A sign of things to come as the offense began fighting back (literally) against the defense.

I just saw two honest-to-God holes open up on back-to-back outside zone runs on the goal line for the Patriots offense. It really happened. Good cutback by Stevenson on the second one.

— Khari Thompson (@kdthompson5) August 9, 2022

Encouraging stuff here for the line, who has certainly played a part in the offensive woes in recent sessions, good to get the run going with clear gaps.

Patriots Tweets Of Note: Training Camp Day 10

August 8, 2022 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

The Patriots had a padded walkthrough/gameday-style practice in Gillette Stadium Friday night, but I didn’t feel there was anything major to report back on so we’re back for today’s afternoon session!

Here are all of the Tweets Of Note from Patriots Training Camp Day 10!

Back at it for an afternoon practice. pic.twitter.com/iBOgpbpEiS

— Mike Dussault (@MikeDussault19) August 8, 2022

Another beautiful day for work on the practice field, like this afternoon, tomorrow’s practice is also slated to start at 4pm, open to the public for free from 3pm.

Belichick said rookie RB Pierre Strong is “a little bit behind” after being limited for the first week of camp but that he’s “working hard, catching up.”

— Zack Cox (@zm_cox) August 8, 2022

Strong is certainly up against it to find a role this year given how stacked the running back room is, but Bill noted that the rookie is working hard.

Patriots training camp Day 10

PUP: James White

NFI: Andrew Stueber

Returned: Rhamondre Stevenson, Matt Judon, Jabrill Peppers, Chasen Hines, Jahlani Tavai and Dalton Keene

— Mark Daniels (@ByMarkDaniels) August 8, 2022

Probably the healthiest the team has been all offseason as a bunch of players returned today. As we now enter the third week of camp, my worries increase for James White’s future as he remains on the PUP list.

Getting Jahlani Tavai back is good news after real concern last week that he had suffered a major injury.

Tyquan Thornton dusts Malcolm Butler and Terrance Mitchell in 1-on-1s. Smoked Mitchell at the line of scrimmage. #Patriots

— Evan Lazar (@ezlazar) August 8, 2022

Thornton continues to impress in drills and is beginning to show off his express speed which I’m sure delighted all in attendance today, my expectation for his rookie-season involvement is beginning to grow.

Patriots Tweets Of Note: Training Camp Day 8

August 4, 2022 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Day 8 is in the books after a hot morning on the practice fields next to Gillette Stadium. Football is so close to being back for us all as the Pats continue to put in the work ahead of their first preseason game next Thursday against the Giants.

Let’s take a look at the Tweets Of Note from Day 8 of the Patriots 2022 Training Camp!

Gonna be a scorcha today, can you say Miami Week 1 weather? pic.twitter.com/3aISsyqzCP

— Mike Dussault (@MikeDussault19) August 4, 2022

Not a cloud in the sky for what was an absolute scorcher in Foxboro, oh what I’d give to have been there sunning it up.

Bill Belichick says he isn't sure when TEs coach Nick Caley will come back to the team. He's been out with illness since at least Monday.

— Henry McKenna (@henrycmckenna) August 4, 2022

Caley had at one point been considered the next OC in waiting for the team, but instead remains the TEs coach.

Day 8 of Patriots training camp

Absent: Matthew Judon, Dalton Keene

PUP: James White

NFI: Chasen Hines, Andrew Stueber

Returned: Jabrill Peppers, Malcolm Butler, Devin McCourty, Brian Hoyer, Lil’Jordan Humphrey

Limited: Deatrich Wise pic.twitter.com/tb7eg84IWF

— Mark Daniels (@ByMarkDaniels) August 4, 2022

No Matt Judon or Dalton Keene, who were the only new absences today, good to get a group of returns who were missing yesterday, however.

Patriots Tweets Of Note: Training Camp Day 7

August 3, 2022 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Jessica Rinaldi/The Boston Globe via Getty Images

We’re already finished with Wednesday of week 2, this preseason is going quick, especially as the Pats welcome the New York Giants to Gillette Stadium a week on Friday.

Here are the Tweets Of Note from Patriots Training Camp Day 7!

Patriots in shells and operating at slower pace today as they work on correcting and repping offensive stuff that looked shaky Monday and Tuesday. A reset day ahead of tomorrow’s practice in billion degree weather means Thursday is shaping up as an interesting workout.

— Tom E. Curran (@tomecurran) August 3, 2022

A lighter day today for the team, but as Tom Curran notes, the session has set things up nicely for tomorrow, likely when the pads will come back on along with some real high temperatures!

Every day that I've been here this summer, Jonnu Smith begins the day by heading over to the Jugs machine. #Patriots pic.twitter.com/HybNL4SC6E

— Mike Giardi (@MikeGiardi) August 3, 2022

Jonnu Smith has had a nice camp so far, here’s his early morning ritual before practice.

Brian Hoyer was dealing with an illness, per source, as @jeffphowe reported. He’s back at practice but limited today.

— Mark Daniels (@ByMarkDaniels) August 3, 2022

Hoyer returns but was on a separate field today as he recovers from an illness.

Assuming James White isn’t ready for the start of the season, still think Ty Montgomery factors into the receiving back equation. But Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson have both made plays in the passing game when in there. #Patriots

— Evan Lazar (@ezlazar) August 3, 2022

With no James White, the top 3 backs on the roster continue to put in the work for the passing game, it’s looking more and more likely that Montgomery will have a role to play for at least the beginning of the season.

Marcus Jones is squarely in the mix to be the primary punt returner. For those confused by the wording here.

— Evan Lazar (@ezlazar) August 3, 2022

The rookie defensive back has been involved in the punt return rotations but looks to have the edge as we head towards the preseason games. Remember, Jones is considered one of the best returners in recent NCAA history.

Today’s practice was almost exclusively 11-on-11 periods. A good amount of those were around walk-through pace. It definitely seemed like an adjustment day, working through what the team has been seeing on film this week.

— Alex Barth (@RealAlexBarth) August 3, 2022

Alex Barth notes that the team were trying to iron out mistakes seen on film today in a much slower practice session, the offense still has a ways to go and they need a bounce-back day soon.

Pads back tomorrow? Let’s hope so!

Patriots Tweets Of Note: Training Camp Day 6

August 2, 2022 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Brian Fluharty-USA TODAY Sports

Another day of pads in the books, and another day on top for the Patriots defense. The first preseason game against the Giants is in less than a week, with still much work to be done.

Let’s take a look at the Tweets Of Note from Training Camp Day 6!

One new absence on Day 6 of Patriots camp: TE Dalton Keene.

Also out:

QB Brian Hoyer
RB James White
OL Chasen Hines
OL Andrew Stueber

DE Deatrich Wise is here but working on a side field.

Two new DBs are here, wearing Nos. 35 and 36. Would assume one is Brad Hawkins.

— Zack Cox (@zm_cox) August 2, 2022

Dalton Keene was the only new absence, joining Brian Hoyer who was also missing again.

Ronnie Perkins has had one of the best practices I’ve seen from him. He had a sack, a couple run stuffs and has been in the backfield plenty today

— Mark Daniels (@ByMarkDaniels) August 2, 2022

The first real note about Ronnie Perkins, the third-round pick from last year’s draft. Perkins is still only 22, and has an opportunity to play a role this year, starting with the preseason games, he’ll be one to keep an eye on.

Lot of action for Bailey Zappe today. He and the second-team offense took 13 consecutive reps in the latest 11-on-11 period.

— Zack Cox (@zm_cox) August 2, 2022

With Mac presumably having his reps managed today to ensure he doesn’t get burned out, Bailey Zappe got a ton of important time in competitive 11-on-11 practice. The rookie could well be earning himself a place on the roster.

Patriots Tweets Of Note: Training Camp Day 5

August 1, 2022 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Fred Kfoury III/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

After what felt like forever (it was only a week), we have pads! Pads mean an increase in physicality to practice, and it really is the first time you’ll be able to begin making informed opinions on who may or may not make the roster.

Week 2 of Patriots Training Camp is here, let’s see what were the Tweets Of Note!

Pads are on. pic.twitter.com/aBq4aj0mmP

— Mike Dussault (@MikeDussault19) August 1, 2022

Mike D keeps bringing the different camera angles from camp, another glorious day, made even better by the addition of shoulder pads.

Patriots’ punter Jake Bailey reached agreement on a four-year, $13.5 million contract that includes $6.5 million fully guaranteed and runs through 2025 season, per source. The new deal makes Bailey one of the league’s three highest-paid punters.

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) August 1, 2022

Just before practice, a report broke that punter Jake Bailey had signed a new 4-year extension with the team, making him one of the league’s highest-paid players at the position. This will apparently free up some cap space whilst confirming Bailey as the team’s punter long-term.

Jonathan Jones (PUP list), Jabrill Peppers (PUP) and Myles Bryant (NFI) are in pads, indicating they’ve been activated.

— Andrew Callahan (@_AndrewCallahan) August 1, 2022

The defense gets some reinforcements thanks to these three returning to the field. Reports were that they worked back in at a steady pace, but I’m just glad they’re back out there and we’ll get to take a look at Peppers especially, I think he could play a role for the team this season if he can stay healthy.

From today’s @Patriots’ practice, their first in pads this training camp, here’s rookie receiver Tyquan Thornton, who later connected with Mac Jones on a 50-yard beauty (throw and catch) down the right sideline. pic.twitter.com/r43RlyH2Pz

— Bob Socci (@BobSocci) August 1, 2022

Just a downfield rep here, but Mac Jones spent a portion of today’s session throwing deep passes, something which Pats fans will be wanting to see more of in the regular season.
