2014 NFL Mock Draft: What teams should do in first round | The MMQB with Peter King
Bedard gives Su’a-Filo to the Pats. That’s a move I’m totally on board with in the first round. Bitonio could be an option there too from all the late buzz surrounding him. Just nice to see a mock without Easley or Hageman (even though I still REALLY want Easley).
Round 1, Pick 29: DT Louis Nix III, Notre Dame
Round 2, Pick 62: TE Troy Niklas, Notre Dame Well, we all know that the Patriots will trade down, up, and around, but let’s just pretend for a moment that Bill Belichick isn’t allowed to answer the phone on draft day. And that he’s only, apparently, allowed to draft players from the Golden Dome. The 331-pound Nix is a mammoth two-gap defensive tackle who profiles as Vince Wilfork’s long-term replacement (or, if Wilfork isn’t the same after his Achilles injury, Wilfork’s immediate replacement). Niklas is a dominant blocker, and if anything gets Belichick’s dander up, it’s tight ends who can block.
Don’t see it with Nix, but I’d be happy with NIklas.

This was somewhat of an expected move and it’s a solid one to lock down right before the draft. This is a classic Patriots signing, a veteran whose old team might’ve thought they were done, getting one last shot in Foxboro.
Smith had a down year in 2012, then bad luck with an ACL tear in 2013. So who knows, maybe he still has something to prove. He should be a good rotational third defensive end with Nink and Chandler, though I think the door is still open for Michael Buchanan as a pure pass rusher. It’s doubtful that Smith still has the explosion that a younger player like Buchanan does.

Five mocks side-by-side here and two of them have Easley, two have Hageman and one has Bitonio. Can’t remember a year when so many Pats pundits were in lockstep on the first pick as we get closer to the draft. It’s just making me more and more curious who falls and what they end up doing.
