A league source Friday night said that the 30-year-old Lloyd and the Patriots were “close’’ to coming to a contract agreement. Once it’s finalized, the team could potentially have the outside-the-numbers receiving threat it has been lacking since Randy Moss was traded a quarter of the way into the 2010 season.

It’s a different process. It’s not something that I’ve been through,” Green-Ellis said Friday at the MassMutal Center, where he dropped the puck for the game between the Springfield Falcons and Portland Pirates. “I don’t know what’s going to happen. I just have to sit back and wait for things to unfold.”
Green-Ellis has been one of the Patriots’ steadiest options on offense after emerging as the starting running back during the 2010 season. He ran for 1,675 yards and 24 touchdowns over the last two seasons, and is yet to fumble as a professional, but New England hasn’t made him an offer that he deems fair.
The 26-year-old said that negotiations have been ongoing between him and the organization, and hopes that an agreement will eventually be reached.
“It’s not a perfect world,” Green-Ellis said when asked if he’d like to remain a Patriot. “I just know that both sides are working on it and hopefully things get done.

It came down to three teams actually. Well….. kinda four teams at first. Then three and then two. And you Colts fans don’t wanna know who other team was. I’ll let you figure that one out. Ha!

The key to roster management these days to is to have lots of quality players on the bottom of your roster that you aren’t paying tons of money for. Every draft pick, be it a third-round pick that is used on a wide receiver or a seventh-round pick that is used on a linebacker, should become an important piece of a teams roster puzzle.

Trading away draft picks for “name” players and missing on your scouting evaluations of college talent are the two quickest ways to decimate your roster for years to come. The teams handing out ridiculous contracts during the opening days of free agency are almost always the ones who have screwed up in the draft and who are now desperate to paper over the cracks.

The 1976 Patriots were one of the best teams to not win a Super Bowl. Here they are handing the Raiders their only loss of the season. Of course, it was the Raiders that would end the Patriots’ season thanks to a bogus roughing the passer penalty in the playoffs. Still, you can’t beat this […]
