Rob Gronkowski looks about 100% from this view, and was tantalizing in beating double coverage near the goal line for an easy score… Partner in crime Aaron Hernanez was once again a nightmare to cover, slipping past and around defenders… Kyle Arrington got physical again in one-on-ones. Although not the biggest guy, he plays big… Brandon Bolden has a nose for the end zone… Patrick Chung has had durability issues throughout his career, but he’s not afraid to play physical and throw his body around… One note that is a continuation thought from previous practices: some players have a nose for defending screen passes. Former Patriots Mike Vrabel and Tedy Bruschi did. It looks like top draft choice Dont’a Hightower does too.

Chandler Jones continued his dominance from right defensive end during one-on-ones, breezing by Darrion Weems (as he should) during his first attempt, and Nate Solder on his second try. Immediately after beating Solder, Belichick shouted from across the field to give Jones a tip on hand movement. If Jones beat Solder a little cleaner with his hand placement, it wouldn’t have been a contest. Even with that victory, Belichick was coaching Jones hard.

(On if the fans can help in a practice the way they can during a game) “I don’t know. This is training camp, so I don’t think anything can help us but a day off from training camp. But it’s always fun to come out and have a crowd and see the crowd, even when it’s not in the stadium, to have the fans come out and support us and see us practice. They actually grow with us as the season goes on, because they see us from training camp all the way through the season, so they get a chance to see everything. I think that’s very exciting, from a player standpoint. To have these people be a part of us, that’s big for this team. But some people like this [the crowds]. It’s almost like a game, the amount of people we get out here. So some people like it. Me, I don’t care either way, but it just shows the respect and the love that they have for the New England Patriots and you have to respect that.”

» The Patriots Are the Most Popular Team in China Barstool Sports: Boston

French historian Jacques Barzan once said “Whoever wants to know the heart and mind of America had better learn baseball.” Which was all well and good in the 1930s.  In the 21st century, America is all about your New England Patriots, and the Chinese have figured that out.  So while we sit here fat and happy, stuffing ourselves with pork rinds, pounding PBRs and watching Synchronized Diving, the Red Menace is over there studying Belichick’s tactics, taking lessons from Mr. Kraft’s business savvy and probably cloning an army of Bradys in a government lab somewhere.

“The director yelled ‘cut’ when we were running passing routes because he said they already had hours of footage of has-beens and shitty draft picks dropping passes and needed to get a shot of somebody actually catching the ball.”
