What people miss about the preseason, especially with line play, is the Patriots don’t do many things as far as protections and schemes. There are a lot of straight dropbacks. The blockers are asked to do a lot of one-on-one blocking, both in the run and pass games. They don’t keep the backs or tight ends in to help. So, yes, if you leave the Patriots’ offensive linemen on an island, they are going to have their struggles at times. Maybe more than their share. But if you construct a plan like offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels did for the Titans, and the Patriots execute like they did, team blocking is going to be in a position to be successful.
It slipped out,” Gronkowski said with a smile. “I wasn’t going to go grab it. I played it off pretty well.
“You know, it wasn’t perfect by any stretch, but it’s always fun winning.” -Tom Brady.
Quite a good win by our players. Those guys did a really good job. We did a good job running the ball offensively, did a decent job stopping the run defensively, made some big plays, turned the ball over and had good field position, so it was a good team win. All three units contributed. We had a lot of guys step up and if we can play that way we will be alright but it was good to see everyone contribute and all the units do a good job for us. It’s nice to get off to a good start but we have got a long way to go.

Chandler Jones is the real deal – There’s no more wondering about it, Jones has shown what he can do – and that’s cause havoc. In his first game, the rookie defensive end recorded a strip-sack, a tackle for a loss, as well as a couple of hurries. It was more than enough to make the Titans take note of his presence and the rest of the world to stop and applaud him on a job well done. What you saw on the field was a playmaker with a quick burst off the line, able to use his hands to get leverage, and a bit of tenacity to chase down a scrambling quarterback. Yes, Jones certainly has the tools to be an elite pass rusher in the NFL.
