Beauharnais (seventh round) can play defensive end as well as inside and strong-side linebacker, while Harmon (third round, 91st overall) often played man-to-man coverage against tight ends, in addition to his safety duties. “I thought this kid was a really intriguing prospect, and he was utilized in multiple ways, which again is a Belichick factor,” Cosell said of Harmon. “When I watched him on film I thought to myself, ‘This kid’s a Belichick kind of player.’ ”

When the Patriots put two or more receivers on the field, Ridley faced eight or more men in the box on nearly 25 percent of his runs, the highest ratio in the NFL among backs with 40 or more carries in such situations.

How much of Stevan Ridley’s success has to do with Tom Brady’s presence? Not as much as you think | masslive.com

Interesting stuff, but I think where the numbers get a little murky are when the Pats were running their no-huddle. A lot of the time, defenses weren’t even set when they ran the ball, so it’s hard to really define how many defenders were “in the box”. Some of them might’ve been standing in the box, but looking at the sideline wondering what play to run as Brady snapped the ball and gave it to Ridley.

Great first piece from new Globe NFL writer Ben Volin. You can’t go wrong with Greg Cosell. There’s too much good stuff in here, must read as always when Cosell talks Pats.
