Tweets of Note: Patriots Training Camp Practice #5

August 1, 2017 by Mike Dussault

Stopped in for a little bit at training camp practice number five this morning, just long enough to see a little 11-on-11 work. It was a much lighter crowd than I saw on Thursday and Friday last week, with plenty of open spots on the side hill where you could watch.

It was a hot morning and tempers were flaring as Julian Edelman and Stephon Gilmore got into a shoving match and were both ejected from practice. One injury note that popped up — Elandon Roberts went down, had his foot looked at then taped and then hopped right back into practice. Roberts seems like one of those uber tough guys who would need to lose a limb to miss time.

James O’Shaughnessy also had to leave due to an injury.

Here’s some other tweets of note from the dog days of training camp…

Absent from practice: Duron Harmon and Cody Hollister

A lot of looks for Deatrich Wise and Harvey Langi.

Wise and Langi have been playing sooner than later during practice reps. Wise has stood out to just about everyone, including yours truly after watching him Sunday. He looks like he’ll be able to play a couple different roles up front and is the rookie who has gotten the most attention. Langi’s getting thrown in there a lot at outside linebacker, but he’s had his struggles standing out. Still if his snaps are increasing they must like what they see.

Julian Edelman and Stephon Gilmore had the long lonely walk off the practice field after a spirited scrap in which both players lost helmets

Like seeing this kind of fire in camp, especially for Gilmore to not back down.

Good day for Justin Coleman. He had a pick and got his hands on a few passes.

Coleman very much on the bubble but I’ve always liked his game despite his inconsistency. Physical player who saw his snaps diminish last season after a good start as a rookie in 2015.

James O’Shaughnessy left practice today and went down to the lower field. I’d say he’s been the favorite for the No. 3 TE spot

Personally I like Lengel a little bit more than O’Shaughnessy at this point but they’re two to focus on in the games.
