Tom E. Curran: Patriots should be $18 to $20 million under salary cap

Let the speculation of what they’ll do with that space begin! Obviously the rookies will take a chunk of that but there should be enough for some additions.

The first two priorities have to be trying to get a long term deal done for Mankins and re-upping Matt Light for perhaps a 2-year deal. Working out a long term deal for my Mankins would probably open up more cap space as well.

Who knows what the new rules of the land will be, but it looks like the Pats are in good shape regardless and could have enough room to make a splash or two in free agency. If they want to.
