The new Football Outsiders DVOA rankings are out, and the trends for the Patriots don’t look too hot.

Offensively the Pats have been pretty much in a steady decline since the first game of the season. Despite this the Patriots still have the best offensive DVOA in all of football.

Defensively (where I’ve flipped the ratings to negative to make the chart a little easier to analyze) the Pats are starting to regress again the last two weeks after decent improvement since the Jets game.

On Special Teams the trend of the last three games of marginally poor performances continued.

It’s not getting any easier for the Patriots with the Steelers on deck and the Colts in the hole. Reversing the current trends will no be small task. Graphically, this looks like a team headed in the wrong direction and that’s disturbing.

AFC Championship Game is a case study of how NFL defenses are evolving | The MMQB with Peter King Wow, I am both relieved and proud to have written a complimentary article to Andy Benoit, a football writer I have long respected, that makes a lot of the same points about the Pats and man […]
