Vermont Academy

April 9, 2013 by Mike Dussault

And just for old time’s sake here’s another of Mike Dussault, Pass Rusher Un-Extraordinaire. That’s me in the middle again, head-up on the guard, about to be completely stonewalled, and likely thrown to the ground, by number 68 in blue. I remember just wanting the game to be over at halftime during this one. Granted I was a 195-pound tackle who played both ways, and all special teams (we were really, really bad and barely had enough guys for a team). Let’s just say I enjoy blogging about football far more than I liked playing.

Hockey on the other hand… that’s a story for another day.

A fond farewell to the Vermont Academy football program. I’m surprised my horrible defensive tackle play (shown above in the middle in white, getting completely blocked out of the play  by #68) didn’t cause the demise sooner. I didn’t do the Wildcat football tradition any justice, but always sad to see the end of a team with history going back to the early 1900’s.

All of us here at Vermont Academy are proud of our storied football history. We will always cherish that very special tradition and honor alumni who played on those great teams. Vermont Academy has been blessed with great coaches – such as John Lucy, Bob Harrington and others – and players over the years, but like all individuals and institutions that look to grow and develop, we have to make this decision at this time.

Former Patriots receiver Troy Brown said discipline is the only way for receivers to thrive in the offense. “Discipline in route-running — not rounding out, not coming back to the ball, all the little things you don’t always think about,” Brown said. “Taking care of your body. Eating right. Being accountable. All those things are […]
