Patriots Tweets Of Note – Training Camp 07/31

August 1, 2021 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Day 4 of camp rolled around yesterday, with more clips and notes from fans and reporters in attendance. Let’s check out the Tweets of Note from Day 4 of Training Camp!

Nordin hits his 2nd FG of the day pic.twitter.com/uTotHv9njF

— Ethan Hurwitz (@HurwitzSports) July 31, 2021

The first real footage of any kicking activities emerged yesterday as Quinn Nordin, the UFA from Michigan, sailed one over through the uprights. Man, what a leg this kid has, if his consistency is there, I think he could easily edge out Folk by the end of camp, but, I think reps in the pre-season games will determine that.

Cam Newton again led off every period and was 12 of 21 in competitive team drills. Not as crisp as yesterday.

Mac Jones was 12 of 17 but closed practice 4 of 4 against the starters, probably his best period of the opening four days.

— Jeff Howe (@jeffphowe) July 31, 2021

Jeff Howe believed Mac Jones had his best day of camp yesterday, some good throws for him against the starters, and he was showing improvement. He also noted that Cam Newton had another strong day.

Bill Belichick says team will have a few padded practices next week and then a few the following week before taking on Washington in preseason opener Aug. 12.

— Ryan Hannable (@RyanHannable) July 31, 2021

A couple of padded sessions next week to look forward to, this is where camp will really kick up a notch.

Rhamondre Stevenson looks like a real threat out of the backfield. Has impressive hands. #Patriots

— Brian Hines (@iambrianhines) July 31, 2021

The rookie RB was getting involved yesterday in some pass-catching drills, showing some potential to be a dual option out of the backfield. I’m unsure how the backs room will look come September, but it’s exciting to see this one play out.

Patriots Tweets Of Note – Training Camp 07/30

July 30, 2021 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Day 3 of camp is here! The countdown to pads is on, but the team continues its slow build-up in their mini-camp Esq style of practice. A few noteworthy pieces in today’s Tweets of Note from camp, let’s get at it!

Injury news: C/G Ted Karras remained down after a rep in 11-on-11 drills and after getting up on his own, he is now walking to the medical area with head athletic trainer Jim Whalen.

— Mike Reiss (@MikeReiss) July 30, 2021

This was a concern today, up until today *touches wood* there hadn’t been any injury scares, but the news of Teddy K falling over a teammate earlier was a worry. Fortunately, it sounds as if that backup center avoided a serious injury to his left knee. This will be one to watch, although not the end of the world if Karras has to miss some time, the team went out to get him and value his presence in the group.

Rookie RB Rhamondre Stevenson (4th round, Oklahoma) is here at practice in uniform, which indicates that he is coming off the non-football injury list.

— Mike Reiss (@MikeReiss) July 30, 2021

The rookie RB stepped onto the practice field for the first time today after beginning camp on PUP. Currently, the team has a stacked room of backs, with the likes of Sony Michel and Damien Harris fighting it out for the lead rushing role, Stevenson will have an opportunity to be a part of the backfield this season if he’s fully fit throughout camp.

Really nice start for Mac Jones in 11v11s. He went 3/3 in the first period. He had two great TD passes to Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne. The one to Agholor was in a tight window. The one to Bourne was a beauty in the corner of the end zone

— Mark Daniels (@ByMarkDaniels) July 30, 2021

With a magnifying glass on Jones for pretty much everything he does, it was good to see him have some success in 11v11s. Cam was also noted by many as having a good day and connecting a bunch with some of the new faces in the WR room, one thing is for sure, the QB competition is primed to heat up when the pads come on next week.

Superb catch by Nelson Agholor on an end-zone crosser from Cam Newton. Wideout has been heavily involved today.

— Zack Cox (@zm_cox) July 30, 2021

Agholor was the WR who everyone was talking about today, by all accounts he had a fine day, making a number of impressive catches from both quarterbacks taking the majority of reps. I’m really coming around to the idea of Agholor being the no 1 target this season.

A little less rain today on the training field as the players got into their second practice of the week. Let’s check out the Tweets of Note from Day 2 of Training Camp 2021!

Bill Belichick’s first in-person presser in … a very long time. pic.twitter.com/t8PGTkRvLD

— Zack Cox (@zm_cox) July 29, 2021

The GOAT is back shooting down reporters in person, that’s the SB 51 winning missing Elvis jacket in case you’re wondering, Bill, looking well and on top form before today’s session.

Things are feeling more normal now, aren’t they?

#Patriots Day 2 is underway. Only attendance change is the addition of QB Jake Dolegala, who was picked up Wednesday night. pic.twitter.com/qgMpO93hLO

— Jim McBride (@globejimmcbride) July 29, 2021

Something which happened last night was the re-signing of QB Jake Dolegala, he was around last year on the practice squad before heading to Green Bay. Bill said earlier today that Stidham is going to miss some time, so Dolegala returns to add another active body in the camp reps.

Not really a full speed rep by J.C. but Tre Nixon just caught a TD on him on a slant in low red zone work. Smooth route by Nixon. #Patriots

— Evan Lazar (@ezlazar) July 29, 2021

This was the first time I’ve heard of Tre Nixon this camp, the last pick in this year’s draft noted as catching a touchdown slant on the coverage J.C. Jackson today. Nixon is an outsider to make the roster for sure but he will be a fun project to watch develop over the next few weeks.

Day 2 of #Patriots camp and Mac Jones is getting on the same page with his receivers. Kendrick Bourne talks shop with the rookie after a drill. pic.twitter.com/p4UjDSCnMs

— The Camera Guys (@NBCSCameraGuys) July 29, 2021

A close-up from the NBC Camera Guys on Mac in action earlier today whilst building a connection with Jonnu Smith and Kendrick Bourne. I have an inkling that the QB competition needle won’t move all that much until the pads are on and the temp is turned up a notch.

Patriots Tweets Of Note – Training Camp 07/28

July 28, 2021 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Football is back! This offseason felt like an eternity following the Draft in late April, but here we are, Training Camp 2021, fans, a rookie QB, bunch of FA signings, let’s check out a bumper edition of Day 1 Tweets of Note!

A little over an hour until go time! pic.twitter.com/QFISya9pXO

— Mike Dussault (@MikeDussault19) July 28, 2021

PatsProp founder Mike D posted his usual pre-practice panoramic picture, calm before the storm, but a great view from the gantry he had today.

Today is the start of New England Patriots training camp, I really don’t miss those days, but it was a lot of fun being around my teammates.. #nofairducking #onlythestrongsurvive pic.twitter.com/8tz5nmWGcP

— Andre Tippett (@AndreTippett) July 28, 2021

One of the greats of yesteryear dropped a note ahead of the first practice of camp today, great to hear from Tipp, what a great photo that is.

Mac Jones to N’Keal Harry and then Gunner Olszewski pic.twitter.com/qxbzqKTBoR

— Mark Daniels (@ByMarkDaniels) July 28, 2021

Listen to the crowd roar, that’s something. Sure, uncontested open throw and catch didn’t blow me away, but nice to see Mac get some reps in front of a crowd, and great to see fans back having fun.

Also, Gunner looks quick, out of that cut across the backline of the end zone he really turned on the jets.

Nelson Agholor definitely stood out as the best separator among the receiver group so far. Caught two TDs in the most competitive reps. Did a nice job working the back of the end zone. #Patriots

— Evan Lazar (@ezlazar) July 28, 2021

After a fairly uneventful mini-camp, Agholor got some notice today as Evan Lazar noted a few nice grabs from him as he managed to stand out as the top WR to get space in today’s session.

I’ve heard some say that they’re concerned that he is more of a broken-down play type of receiver, but whilst I agree he has shown in Oakland his capability of having big plays from broken routes, I think he’ll surprise a few people this season and have a productive year. Still early days, but a nice start to the new season for him.
