Patriots Tweets Of Note – Training Camp 07/31

August 1, 2021 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Day 4 of camp rolled around yesterday, with more clips and notes from fans and reporters in attendance. Let’s check out the Tweets of Note from Day 4 of Training Camp!

The first real footage of any kicking activities emerged yesterday as Quinn Nordin, the UFA from Michigan, sailed one over through the uprights. Man, what a leg this kid has, if his consistency is there, I think he could easily edge out Folk by the end of camp, but, I think reps in the pre-season games will determine that.

Cam Newton again led off every period and was 12 of 21 in competitive team drills. Not as crisp as yesterday.

Mac Jones was 12 of 17 but closed practice 4 of 4 against the starters, probably his best period of the opening four days.

— Jeff Howe (@jeffphowe) July 31, 2021

Jeff Howe believed Mac Jones had his best day of camp yesterday, some good throws for him against the starters, and he was showing improvement. He also noted that Cam Newton had another strong day.

Bill Belichick says team will have a few padded practices next week and then a few the following week before taking on Washington in preseason opener Aug. 12.

— Ryan Hannable (@RyanHannable) July 31, 2021

A couple of padded sessions next week to look forward to, this is where camp will really kick up a notch.

Rhamondre Stevenson looks like a real threat out of the backfield. Has impressive hands. #Patriots

— Brian Hines (@iambrianhines) July 31, 2021

The rookie RB was getting involved yesterday in some pass-catching drills, showing some potential to be a dual option out of the backfield. I’m unsure how the backs room will look come September, but it’s exciting to see this one play out.

Eric Adler, the Patriots team photographer, provided a few shots from yesterday’s session, a glorious day in Foxboro, what I would give to be out there!

Few Saturday notes… Cam has strung together two pretty good practices, Agholor/Smith too, Mac makes plays but he’s def a rookie, Phillips all over the TEs, so many options on defense, outside CB/WR depth still a question. Good start but I think everyone is ready for some pads.

— Mike Dussault (@MikeDussault19) July 31, 2021

Mike D summed up the overall consensus with concerns over the depth at cornerback and wide receiver, and that he just wants to see “real football” in pads ASAP.

King hasn't played in a game since Super Bowl LIII. He missed the last two seasons with injuries. https://t.co/eu92WyzZEM

— Zack Cox (@zm_cox) July 31, 2021

Zack Cox reported two returns yesterday as linebacker’s Anfernee Jennings and Brandon King appeared on the practice field. Jennings had been excused with a personal issue, whilst King had been battling injuries, last playing for the team in 2019 at Super Bowl LIII.

The #Patriots are doing that thing where they spray the hose and make guys jump on a loose football. Matthew Slater is manning the hose.

— Evan Lazar (@ezlazar) July 31, 2021

The yearly Slip’N’slide tradition continues as Slate manned the hose and the rookies slid across the practice field. A fun way to start the final practice of the week.

More back on Monday, I hope you all have a good end to your weekend.

Quick Hits on Patriots Undrafted Free Agent Signees

Every year, no matter how stacked the Patriots seem to be, an undrafted rookie makes the team and finds a way to contribute. None have been more famous than Malcolm Butler, who was making plays on the ball from his earliest days in training camp, and ended the season making then biggest play on the […]
