CHFF: Brady Passed Manning?

December 22, 2010 by Mike Dussault

CHFF: Brady Passed Manning?

I’m posting this link not because I think it’s a definitive conclusion to the great Brady-Manning debate, but because of the stats laid out showing how Brady has faced the toughest slate of defenses in the NFL this year. Check this:

Seven of Brady’s 14 games this year were played against the six stingiest scoring defenses in football (Co-No. 1s Green Bay and Pittsburgh, No. 3 Chicago, No. 4 Baltimore, No. 5 N.Y. Jets (twice) and No. 6 San Diego).

Brady and the Patriots shredded almost all of them. They scored:

• 31 points against Green Bay Sunday night, the most any team has scored this year against the league’s stingiest defense (15.7 PPG)

• 39 against Pittsburgh, the most any team has ever scored in a regular-season game at Heinz Field

• 33 points in the first half alone against Chicago; the Bears have not surrendered more than 26 total points in any other game this year.

• 45 points in their second meeting against the Jets; the team has otherwise not given up more than 31 points in a game in two years under Rex Ryan.

To be honest I don’t really give a crap about the great Manning – Brady debate, as I’ve said many times before. So is this article moot if Manning and the Colts upset Brady at Foxboro this year?  Hoodie forbid, of course.

When both their careers are over and all the Super Bowl trophies, MVPs, and stats are tallied then we can have a legitimate debate about who was the better quarterback. Trying to do so now is like trying to pick a winner while the race is still going on.

Patriots History Tuesday: Tom Brady’s Biggest Comback

December 21, 2010 by Mike Dussault

I knew pretty early on during the offseason of 2009 that I would have to be in attendance for Tom Brady’s first game back. After all, I told him I’d wouldn’t forget him and I didn’t.

If you like the video please vote for me here! I could win a ticket to the Super Bowl!

It was pretty surprising when the Bills looked sharper than the Pats, and with the Patriots losing 24-13 with five minutes to go “fans” started exiting the stadium. I admit I might’ve yelled at a couple of people who must’ve thought they were going to beat the traffic… had they not watched a Patriots game in the last decade?

All it took was a bonehead play from Leodis McKelvin to open the door, and boom, Brady directed his biggest comeback in the game he came back.

Let’s appreciate that final drive and hope we don’t need one like this when Sunday rolls around.

Late Audibles on Matt Flynn, the Packers and the playoffs…

December 19, 2010 by Mike Dussault

Looking forward to a full day of quality football tomorrow. As you may have heard Aaron Rodgers is indeed out, so it will be Matt Flynn going for the Packers.

It’s time for the Patriots young defense to prove that they can shut a quarterback and his offense down. I’m talking a dominating performance. The opportunity against a back-up is sitting in front of them.

If they can show they’re capable of that they’ll intimidate the AFC teams that have to come to Foxboro in the playoffs.

If Matt Flynn suddenly looks like he can’t throw an incompletion the questions surrounding this defense will continue.

I feel confident that our offense will score. Dom Capers is a Dick Lebeau disciple, and we know what the Pats usually do to that defense.

A lot of Clay Matthews vs. Vollmer coming, I think it’s Vollmer’s chance to shine on national tv by shutting him down.

Will Gerard Warren play? If not it will be interesting to see how they hold up against the run, and how much inside pressure they get in passing situations.

Brandon Meriweather in the doghouse or rebounding? Or is Jarrad Page starting to show he’s better than Meriweather is?

I think McCourty plays.

I think Tony Carter plays McCourty’s special teams spots though.

Will we see more Dane Fletcher at OLB?

Finally some thoughts on the playoffs. An unofficial twitter poll had Indianapolis as the number one team my Patweeps didn’t want to play, though some had Baltimore or San Diego as their top teams as well.

For me it comes down to keeping our weakness (pass defense) hidden. I’d prefer not to give Manning or Rivers a crack. But we’ll probably have to beat one of them.

I’ve seen a lot of Baltimore and I’m convinced of two things. The Ravens defense is not what it once was, and Joe Flacco isn’t consistently clutch. I respect the Ravens of course, except for you Terrell Suggs, the new Joey Porter in my life, but I’d far rather face Flacco than Manning or Rivers.

The potential Kansas City match up would be something really cool to me. I just don’t see Tom Brady losing to Matt Cassel. But to see Charlie, RAC, Vrabel, Pioli on the other sideline? That’d be cool. Almost as cool as ending their season.

Enjoy this last prime time dress rehearsal before shit gets real.

I like 84 Branch just as much as I liked 83 Branch.

PFF: Patriots – Chiefs Re-Focused

PFF: Patriots – Chiefs Re-Focused Brian Waters (+1.8) continued what has been a great season against the team he spent 11 seasons with. Perhaps he was subtly explaining to the organisation how they released him too soon as he gave Chiefs’ linemen numerous problems. Waters graded positively in all facets of the game demonstrating the […]
