Review: Roger That! Super Bowl Commemorative Book

March 3, 2017 by Mike Dussault

I had the chance to check out The Boston Globe’s commemorative Super Bowl 51 book and I was blown away. As a kid I used to pour over books like this, with their big glossy pics and articles from the Globe, this is definitely a must-have for die hard Pats fans. It’s the perfect keepsake to pair with a 28-3 comeback tee.

The entire season is recapped, along with a look back at all the Super Bowls the Patriots have gone to, including those four we’d like to forget. Still, it puts them in perspective now and I don’t think I’m alone is saying 42 and 46 don’t sting quite so badly now (Though there will never be a worse loss than 42, it’s impossible, but it no longer makes me sick).

Every standout moment of the 2016 regular season is captured in big beautiful pictures, including the start of the season with Garoppolo and Brissett, Brady’s return to Foxboro (WE WERE THERE!), and even Shea McClellin jumping over the Ravens line to block the field goal attempt.

The pictures from the Super Bowl are perfect. Every key moment is captured — Edelman’s catch, Hightower’s sack, all of James White’s plays, and even that terrible moment when Brady threw the pick six. As much as I love NFL Films and everything they’ll put together, including Three Games To Glory V, I’m really going to love being able to pick this book up and thumb through the season, remembering how it all went down.

The best part though might be the back cover. 🙂

Grab yourself a copy below, you won’t regret it!!

The Patriots Are Not on the Clock: Deflategate Fallout Looms Large in NFL Draft | Bleacher Report

April 26, 2016 by Mike Dussault

Players, coaches and executives have come to view the Patriots’ situation as a referendum on commissioner power. Many of the sources I spoke to used the same word: “railroaded.” As in, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell railroaded the Patriots. As in, the commissioner used his power unfairly and arbitrarily. They think, in effect, that what happened to the Patriots could happen to any of them.

Oh, so now the rest of the NFL starts to get over their blinding Patriots hate and sees this whole charade for what it really was — a railroading. I’m still so surprised by those who checked out after the Wells Report, assured the Patriots were cheating cheaters who finally got caught cheating. Yes, there are actually still football fans who are Team Goodell in this once single solitary instance, because they hate the Patriots.

Anyone who read any bit of material beyond the Wells Report and the NFL’s court arguments should see that there was plenty about this whole thing that reeked of not just unfairness but of a systematic attempt to win the case both in real court and the court of public opinion no matter what the truth actually was.

And yes, if you can get over how much you hate the Patriots, you’ll see that arbitrary and severe punishment is now the law of the land in the NFL.

Still, for all the hate that Commissioner Goodell gets, and yes, he is uniquely terrible, it’s still the owners that control the NFL. Goodell is, for most purposes, just the figurehead. The one who gets paid a huge salary to take all the flack. And if it wasn’t Roger Goodell it’d be someone else we’d all despise. But it’s the owners that want an 18-game season and games all over the earth and games on Thursday every week and every other shitty addition that’s happened to the NFL under Goodell’s watch.

The NFL is the owners, not Roger Goodell.

So this article is a bit significant, if true. If the owners are starting to see how, even on his short leash, that Goodell is still mishandling every instance of discipline that comes his way, they could actually institute real change. And maybe that’s enough to put punishment in the hands of someone, or someones, who can rule neutrally and fairly based on the facts and precedent, instead of over-correcting and applying broad powers to make up for other past punishments that didn’t go far enough in the eyes of some.

Even Goodell’s Supporters Are Baffled

August 21, 2015 by Mike Dussault

Even Goodell’s Supporters Are Baffled

Ruh roh Rog. This is still very tempered from the anonymous owners, but still it’s clear that they’re wondering why every time there’s a controversy the commish’s handling of it makes it ten times worse.

My biggest problem is the “we all voted to give him absolute power” take. YEah you all accepted that, so does that give him a free pass to make the process completely unfair? To plant stories in the press specifically to make the the players look bad? Everyone just has to accept that now?

I think when the players and owners accepted giving the commish this kind of power they thought he’d look at the facts and make a fair ruling. That’s not even close to what has happened time and again.

It’s amazing that all we hear from the league office is “integrity” yet every action they have taken speaks to their complete lack of integrity. It has taken a while but even the owners are waking up.

Brady vs Goodell – YouTube

Thanks to @NotRon_Jaworski for sending this my way. And on a side note I really had no interest in seeing Batman vs. Superman until the real version of this new trailer. Wow. I’m in.
