PatsProp Preview – West Coast Trip Pt 2

December 17, 2022 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

At 7-6, the Patriots are still in the picture for the final wildcard playoff slot in the AFC. Tomorrow brings the second and final game of their West Coast tour, facing off against a former friend, Josh McDaniels and the 5-8 Vegas Raiders. Here’s your snapshot preview for Week 15!

Injuries

The #Patriots ruled out CB Jalen Mills (groin), WR DeVante Parker (concussion), and OT Isaiah Wynn (foot) for Sunday's game vs. the #Raiders.

Jakobi Meyers, Rhamondre Stevenson, and Jack Jones are questionable after returning to practice on Friday. https://t.co/MCJXMTuUeX

— Evan Lazar (@ezlazar) December 16, 2022

Update-

Damien Harris – OUT
Isaiah Wynn – OUT/Placed on IR ending his season
Christian Barmore – Activated from IR

Patriots To Watch

Mac Jones

My focus remains on Mac again this week, and I just hope he can help the team to a win to keep the playoff hopes alive. I don’t need ridiculous numbers from him, just please have a clean game and don’t make any mistakes. Also, try and get along a bit more with Matty P if possible, or at least don’t tell him to shove it during the game.

Jakobi Meyers

The Pats have really missed Meyers since he left the Bills game with a concussion, he’s expected to be back tomorrow (questionable) and with that it also brings back Mac’s safety blanket. The Patriots offense has looked pretty shoddy all season, but at least with Meyers in the mix you feel good about a drive not always stalling in the Pats’ own territory.

Rhamondre Stevenson

Stevenson should be good to go tomorrow evening (questionable) after he left the Cardinals game early on Monday night with an ankle injury. With no Damien Harris again, expect the rookie duo of Kevin Harris and Pierre Strong to be Stevenson’s backup unit in what could be a shared three-pronged attack. Stevenson will be a key outlet for Mac once again.

Christian Barmore

This is good news for the Pats who at one point may have been worried about Barmore returning at all this season. He does, and will slot straight back in tomorrow to provide a big upgrade on the interior of the defensive line. He’ll be a fun watch.

Lucky Raiders?

DeVante Adams

Amidst all of the Raiders’ struggles, Adams has been as good as ever, currently sat on 82 receptions, 1,247 receiving yards, 12 touchdowns. He’s nothing less than a game-changer, and the Pats secondary is going to have their work cut out trying to shut him down.

Josh Jacobs

With the Patriots getting reinforcements back on the defensive front, neutralising Jacobs should be achievable. Jacobs continues his solid campaign as their star rusher and he can’t be allowed to get comfortable tomorrow, especially with Adams on the outside offering that deadly pass-catching threat.

Darren Waller

The Raiders get Waller back after missing him since Week 5 with a hamstring injury. Waller has been on decline over the last few seasons, dealing with ailments as he tries to find the sort of form the league saw from him in 2020. Even with some rustiness to shake off, the Pats will need to be very aware of the threat the big, athletic tight end brings.

Maxx Crosby

Crosby is a very dangerous customer on the Vegas defensive line, he’s currently sat at 11.5 sacks on the year (career high) and can really disrupt a promising drive all by himself. With the Pats’ O-Line struggles still lingering, Crosby could be in for a busy afternoon getting after Mac Jones.

Patshow 114: Raiders Wrap, Cooks Big Gainer and my Grasshopper Pie Recipe!

November 21, 2017 by Mike Dussault

Here’s today’s latest episode of Patshow, shot live today at MediaBoss studios in Framingham. It’s a full hour of me and your old pal Fitzy (aka Nick Stevens) talking Pats. We’re also excited to announce that the Electro Breakdown Zone is now brought to you by Energizer! Please check out our dedicated show page and help support Patshow!

This is our Thanksgiving show and on it I mentioned my favorite pie was Grasshopper Pie. Here’s the recipe for those out there who’d like to make it!

20-30 Oreos

1 Stick of Melted Butter

1 small jar of Marshmallow Fluff

8oz whipping cream

1/4 cup Creme De Menthe

Crush the Oreos in a food processor. Pile them into a 9″ pie dish. Pour the melted butter in and mash the Oreos and butter together with a fork, and slowly push it into the pie crust shape. Put in freezer while you make the filling.

Blend the Creme de Menthe together with the fluff. It takes a little work but eventually it all comes together.

Whip the cream and fold it in with the green fluff mix.

Pour into Oreo crust. Sprinkle some extra Oreo crumbs on top and freeze. Overnight is best.

Pats Posits: Pats Make It Look Easy in Mexico

November 19, 2017 by Mike Dussault

The Patriots rolled to an “all-too-easy” 33-8 win over the Oakland Raiders in Mexico City on Sunday afternoon, cementing their place as Super Bowl favorites. Even without Marcus Cannon, David Andrews and Chris Hogan (to go on top of all the other significant injury losses this year), the New England football machine rolls on!

This one wasn’t all that interesting to be honest as the Pats controlled things pretty much from the outset. While I always enjoy a stress-free victory there’s still something unsatisfying about an easy win. But at this point obviously we’ll take it. The offense put some of their red zone troubles behind, Stephen Gostkowski kicked a career-long field goal (62 yards) to go with four others and the defense didn’t surrender a point until the game was already decided.

There’s really not much to complain about at this point of the Patriots season, which is prime spoiled fan area. So much of the rest of the league has fallen back to earth after promising starts, with the Bills leading the way, the Patriots just keep on rolling.

Still plenty to unpack from the win, here are my initial thoughts without a film review in the Posits!

Patriots Gameplan: Week 11 vs. Oakland Raiders in Mexico City

November 17, 2017 by Mike Dussault

The Patriots high-in-the-sky two-game road trip continues this weekend, as New England goes from last week’s game against the Broncos at 5000 feet above sea level, to a week of practice in Colorado Springs at 6000 feet above sea level and now on to Mexico City, which is 7000 feet above sea level to face the Raiders.

Before the season this looked like a potential AFC Championship preview, but the Raiders haven’t quite lived up to expectations, losing five of their last seven. The Pats and Raiders are similar teams in that their offenses are good (NE 1st DVOA, OAK 3rd DVOA) and their defenses have been at the other end of the spectrum (NE 30th DVOA, OAK 32nd DVOA). Usually all those things kind of cancel out and what we’re left with is: Tom Brady vs. the 32nd-ranked pass defense in the NFL.

But it isn’t exactly a slam dunk. Oakland is better than their record indicates and have shown good resiliency. Nowhere was that more apparent than against the Chiefs when the Raiders had a miraculous last drive that featured two chances at the end zone with time expired. With the game coming at significant elevation, and with unknown field conditions, there are some x-factors that could play into things.

Simply put, the Patriots cannot afford to let the Raiders hang around in this one, because they can sling it when their backs are against the wall. The young Oakland team will see this game as a huge opportunity for them to make their presence in the AFC and NFL felt after a poor start. If it was in Oakland I’d like the Raiders’ chances more, but an experienced New England team, that has been practicing close to altitude all week should be extremely well-prepared and focused on this game.

What the Pats need to do to get that eighth win of the season and finally descend from the clouds back home in the gameplan.

Yikes! Almost forgot about this one. Pats/Raiders definitely have a rich history, especially in meaningful games.

commitmenttoexcellence:

In case you missed it, the punch heard around the world: Raiders LB Matt Millen K.O.’s New England Patriots GM Patrick Sullivan after a loss during the 1985 playoffs.

We’ve got a another one waiting for ‘em…figuratively speaking, of course.

As I’ve started scouting the Bills I have to say I’m concerned about this one. In no particular order:

  • Pats have beaten them 15 straight times, one of these times it has to go the Bills way, right?
  • Bills are 2-0, playing confident, and offensively clicking on all cylinders.
  • Bills have an excellent assortment of weapons, including two tough running backs, a big receiver, and a Wildcat/gimmick guy (Brad Smith) who is familiar with the Pats.
  • The Bills have nothing to lose and should play accordingly.
  • Winning two of your three away division games in the first three weeks of the season is a major accomplishment and would put the Pats in the driver seat for the AFC East early.
  • The Bills seem to excel at what has killed the Patriots most over the past few seasons: passes to the running backs, a quarterback who can scramble when necessary, and an assortment of gadget plays.
  • The Bills have new uniforms that I really like. Don’t underestimate a team that looks good, because you know the saying… “Look good, play good”.
  • Winning this game would mean more to the Bills than it would to the Patriots. I never like being in that position.
  • Pats are banged up, though so are the Bills.

We’ll get more specific with the game plan as the week goes on. Pats offense needs to score early to put pressure on Fitzpatrick and the Bills offense right out of the gate. If they’re allowed to stick around, they have big play capability to seize momentum.

(no title)

Like almost every other team, I think the Patriots hit a rough patch in the draft from 2006-2008. I think they have since come back very strong. The Gronkowski/Hernandez picks are game-changers. In the end, I think Bill Belichick has been overseeing a transition from an older team in 2007, and to turn it over […]
