Patrick Peterson

March 19, 2011 by Mike Dussault

“Peterson plays like a low-test guy,” one NFL decision maker told PFW on the condition he remain anonymous, “but [if] he’s in ‘cat’ [man-to-man] coverage in the NFL, it’s not as big of an issue as it will be for offensive guys.”

“He’s a press corner,” another longtime evaluator said. “His strong suit is that he can run and press. He won’t play for the Patriots, where he’s disguising coverage after coverage, but I still think he can be a No. 1 shutdown corner.”

Nolan Nawrocki via PFW on Patrick Peterson, consensus best defensive back, and bottom 5 wonderlic guy.

So yeah, this will drop the guy I have #2 overall on my Patriots big board.

Will we have any linebackers to stop the run at the beginning of the season? More specifically, are there non-injured depth-LBs who’ve shown they can stop the run in the NFL? (Sorry to see Spikes take himself off the team. Can’t drink+drive.)

The linebacker depth is certainly an area to monitor when camp opens. I’d bet Mayo and Hightower open on PUP, Collins is the question mark as he’s been in and out of OTAs. Not sure what’s going on there. And then even Fletcher has been out as well. So yeah, we’re really looking at James […]
