Not to get ahead of ourselves, but Wes Welker is in the final year of his contract. As always with BB and the Pats, you never know what the grand plan is.

It’s shaping up to be a very interesting story of next off-season. Not that I’m thinking about anything other than the Jets right now.

I’d say it has somewhat to do with how much they like Edelman and Price.

The Pats already made the mistake once of dicking around with Tom Brady’s favorite target, only to have things get ugly and see him end up on another team. Thank Hoodie we got Deion Branch back for the golden years, but we missed out on some quality time with him for sure (see 2006 AFCCG and Caldwell, Reche).

I’d hope that they wouldn’t make the same mistake twice.

Welker may only have a few more seasons before he loses that explosive quickness that he has. But he’s smart enough to get by without it for at least another four.

He’s playing like the best receiver in football. An on-pace-to-be-historic season. He won’t be cheap.

And it definitely seems like he wouldn’t mind seeing what kind of deals are out there.

So I say sign him and sign him quick, before someone’s ready to way overpay him, if they’re not already.

And the New England Football Machine rolls on…

Rapid Reaction

– I’m just going to assume Mayo is done since he was carted off. The only prayer could be if it’s just an MCL. But my Paty sense tells me it’s probably an ACL. Dane Fletcher and Gary Guyton will have to step up.

– This loss will do nothing to spark any kind of excitement that the defense turned a corner. It was the kind of performance that is becoming the norm for New England. I call it the “Live by the turnover, die by the turnover” defense. And today they lived by it. There were some bright spots, but still much to be improved.

– Stevan Ridley is really starting to come on. Not sure if Woodhead is really hurt, but if he is it’s a blow the Pats can withstand.

– Props to Patchung for playing and coming up with a big interception that was gift wrapped, but still…

– Give it up for the O-line in all phases of the game. Game winning performance.

– Not sure what Richard Seymour was doing out there, but I appreciated it. That was always the thing with Big Sey, sometimes he’d pull some total brain farts that left you scratching your head.

And just like that it’s on to the Jets. Let’s hope we can get some guys back healthy, if Love is injured we’ll need Haynesworth more than ever.
