Patriots History Tuesdays: 2005 Pats vs. Colts

So you might wondering to yourself, ‘hey Mike D, how come you’re posting a video of a Patriots loss when we had all those impressive wins over the Colts earlier last decade?’. Well the answer is I’m fired up this week.

I’m sick and tired of hearing about Peyton Manning and the Colts. I’m sick and tired of losing games we should’ve won to the Colts. So much like Coach Belichick taking down the photos from the walls of Gillette Stadium, I’m not posting anything about the big wins over the Colts this week.

This game in 2005 was the turning point in the Pats vs. Manning series, and since then the Pats have but one victory (2007). The RCA Dome, and later the LOSer Stadium, were houses of horrors for the Pats, but now the Colts finally return to Gillette Stadium.

But as this video proves Peyton Manning is capable of winning in Foxboro. The Pats will need their best effort of the season.

I love it when the Cold, Hard Football Facts don’t always back up what the Cold, Hard Football Facts writers say.

Steelers Chalk Talk: Breakdown of Patriots Game

There aren’t many things in life better than watching an opposing teams TV crew break down your team killing their team. The accents are especially fun with this one (who’s Bohnta-Cain), but they do a good job showing Tom Brady’s virtuosity.

Okay, so it’s not the 50th anniversary one that is impossible to find, but it’s a suitable substitute. Your ears will thank you.

Patriots Defensive Packages Regroup

November 15, 2010 by Mike Dussault

This season I’ve been trying to keep track of just what the Pats are doing on defense and as you can see, it’s get a little complicated. With so many young players there’s a constant shift in personnel from week to week.

But last night’s game was one of the most straightforward defensive game plans we’ve seen in a while and is a good place to reset where we’re at.

BASE 3-4 DEFENSE

Brace – Wilfork – Deaderick

Ninkovich – Spikes – Mayo – Cunningham

McCourty – Meriweather – Chung – Arrington

This is the run stopping formation. While there will be some rotation with the line and Tully Banta-Cain, this is emerging as the best 3-4 look the Pats can put together.

NICKEL DEFENSE

Crable – Wright – Warren – Banta-Cain

Mayo – Guyton

McCourty – Wilhite – Meriweather – Chung – Arrington (Sanders rotating in)

DIME DEFENSE

Crable – Wright – Banta-Cain

Mayo – Guyton

McCourty – Wilhite – Brown – Meriweather – Chung – Wilhite – Arrington

(Sanders rotates in here as well)

Two years ago (note – it was actually 3 years ago, gaddamit!!!!!!!!!) was the one and only time the Patriots have beaten the Colts since the 2004 AFCDG and call me crazy but I think it was because we had sent Fitzy in to undermine the Colts and their fans.

This video is priceless. No one has the balls that Fitzy has to pull this off.

As Patriots players were wrapping up their work day Friday, one final meeting was called. It was with the kickoff coverage unit. The Patriots struggled in that area against the Texans last Sunday, and today, they face the NFL’s No. 1 ranked unit led by Jacoby Jones. The best explanation for the struggles last week […]
