A Closer Look at Kyle Arrington the Pass Rusher

November 23, 2010 by Mike Dussault

In the video below you’ll see Kyle Arrington (#27) putting his hand down and rushing Peyton Manning from the defensive end position. It’s pretty rare to see a cornerback, much less a cornerback on the small side, engaging with linemen in the trenches.

In this play Arrington begins to lineup as if he is going to be covering the slot receiver, but given that he had blitzed on previous plays, Manning points him out as a rusher. Once called out Arrington concedes his intentions and puts his hand down to help him get a quicker burst.

In the previous pass rushes he made he tried to beat the tackle wide, dipping his shoulder and trying to get underneath the block, but this time he fakes outside and cuts inside. The combination of this good move and Tully Banta-Cain’s impressive Freney-esque spin move on the other side forced Manning out of the pocket and to make a poor throw on the move.

This was one of the few third downs that the Pats were able to get off the field. This was an interesting wrinkle that Bill Belichick threw at Peyton Manning this time around, and this is one crucial play where it helped the Patriots get off the field.

Lions Fan Lays Down the Gauntlet on the Patriots

November 22, 2010 by Mike Dussault

If you’re a Patriots fan who is still basking in the afterglow of beating the Colts I present the video below from the “Lions to the Super Bowl” vlog. In this terrifying display of a gross over-confidence, our gap-toothed host predicts this game will top Pearl Harbor as THE new day of infamy. Seriously.

I really suggest you watch all four minutes, but if you can only handle a glimpse shoot over to the 2:40 mark where he tries to come up with a really good zinger on the fly. It involves a three-legged turkey. Yeah I’ve watched it a few times and I still don’t get it. But seriously, it’s comedy gold.

The growl at the end is also especially intimidating.

The biggest problem I have with what our Lions fan friend (who is broadcasting from a secure undisclosed location for reasons unknown) says is that he raises more questions than answers.

The Lions are going to punish former Michigan quarterback Tom Brady because Michigan has “taken a turn for the worse”?  So they’ve turned on the Wolverines for two seasons of no bowl games but this guy still loves the Lions enough after decades of ineptitude to be making vidcasts?

Or how about this gem: “We’re gonna manhandle ya like a TSA agent.” So you’re going to gently pat Brady’s balls while searching for contraband? Kinky.

You have to take your hat off to our host, he certainly is confident and for no reason at all. The Lions are not the laughing stock they once were but this guys confidence is almost at Rex Ryan level.

But hey, just a little something to get you to turn your attention to the next battle, which is less than 66 hours away.

This is what it sounded like at Gillette as the Patriots were introduced against the Colts.

In Former Patriots News…

November 22, 2010 by Mike Dussault

Well there were quite a few highlights, or lowlights depending on how you look at them, yesterday with former Pats.

First, we have Richard Seymour aka the Rapist Hater.

Then there’s Asante Samuel making the first violent tackle of his career and of course not missing an opportunity to showboat about it.

And finally there was this scary play on Ellis Hobbs. Of course all thoughts and prayers are with him and hopefully he makes a full recovery.

Gronk at OTAs. Still rehabbing but a good sign he’s out there. And no mega arm brace for now.
