NFL Sound FX offers deeper look at Super Bowl – Extra Points – Boston.com

If you’re like me and still can’t bring yourself to watch any video of any kind of Super Bowl 46 yet, here’s a nice breakdown of the Sound Fx episode that aired last night.

Some interesting stuff…

The pictures of Gronkowski and Light at the post-Super Bowl party didn’t bother me at all. This is a 22-year-old kid who gave his all to this team this year. People blow off steam in different ways and he’s entitled to do whatever he wants (within the law) as far as I’m concerned. I’m more angered that some low-life would take video of it and distribute it. I find that despicable. …

…As for the legacy talk, my take is simple: Talk to me when their careers are over. We always seem to want to write the ending to stories while they are going on. Why? Why can’t we enjoy the journey and then talk legacy? …

I have been having some internal philosophical debates in my head about what media is these days. What are we trying to accomplish? When I got into this business, I thought we were supposed to tell people what they needed to know. Now I think we’re trending in a dangerous area where we report based on what will get clicks. It bothers me…

I’m not perfect, but when I see a company soliciting publicity for dropping a boatload of Butterfingers in Boston and thanking Wes Welker for his drop — and then some report on it to give that company exactly what they want (publicity) — it makes me shake my head. What are we doing here?

Gronking Jersey Shore style

This is the first time I’m posting anything about Gronk’s post-game dance machine because it puts it in the comedic vein it should be in. I could not care less that Gronk was going nuts like this after the game. Those who judge him for it, or think he should’ve been acting depressed, should try putting themselves in his shoes for a second.

Remember all the focus that was on him and his ankle over the two weeks leading up the Super Bowl. Imagine how much time (morning, noon & night) he spent rehabbing over those two weeks. There was so much pressure on this kid after having a historically great season.

As much as I’m sure he wanted to win, this is ultimately his job, so imagine someone judging you for going out and partying your ass off after a horribly stressful and disappointing end to what was otherwise a fantastic year at your job. He’s still just in his early 20’s and he’ll possibly go down as one of the greatest tight ends of all time so cut him some slack. And if you’re really that upset with him just don’t root for him when the Gronk smash spikes start up again in 2012. In the meantime, this video is hilarious…

Offense failed at crucial time – The Boston Globe

Instead of re-watching this Super Bowl any time soon I’ll defer to Greg Bedard’s breakdown which is always excellent. On the offensive side especially I think it’s clear that there need to be some new threats added and maybe that will start with Ridley and Vereen.

And the crazy ride for Patriots fans continues.

No one will ever feel sorry for a Patriots fan. But our experience with this team over the last decade had us see Super Bowl success early and often, then only to suffer big game defeat after big game defeat ever since.

The 2011 Patriots were without a doubt my favorite team since 2007. And what excites me most is that if you truly believe that defenses win championships then you have to be very happy that players like Spikes, Chung, Mayo, McCourty, Arrington, and maybe even Moore just got the experience of playing in their first Super Bowl.

I am excited about this base long term!

No one will argue that there aren’t areas in need of a talent infusion, but they have the draft picks and the cap space to address those areas.

I really feel for Tom Brady. I know he wanted this one bad, and it was there for the taking and I’m sure it’s eating him up right now. But ultimately 2011 will be one of the more positively regarded seasons in his career, with another AFC Championship and record passing yards.

But the truth that everyone knows is that after all the bullshit about Gisele, Butterfingers, and legacies dies down we’ll be right back to where we always are, with the Patriots again favored to win the Super Bowl, sitting with multiple high round draft picks, and a young defense that’s just scratching the surface of what they’ll do in the next five years.

So until then, whatevs…

Brady’s “legacy” (a word that should be buried in the sports lexicon graveyard, right next to “respect”) is completely and totally intact. Brady has been in the league for 12 seasons and played in five Super Bowls. Since becoming a starter in 2001, he has played in the Super Bowl for 45 percent of his career. Much seems to be made of the fact that the Patriots haven’t won a Super Bowl in seven seasons – a statistic that underscores just how awry the culture has gone. True New Englanders remember tearing down goal posts for just making the playoffs. Moreover, as the culture moves toward assessing who failed instead of respecting the athletic battleground, the games themselves lose value.

Negativity about New England Patriots loss in Super Bowl XLVI is alarming – ESPN

I’m glad to see a few of these articles popping up today. I was beginning to think it was just the Patriots homer fandom in me that made me feel that everyone was piling on this Patriots team that exceeded expectations of even a few weeks ago.

On seventh-round selection Jeremy Ebert: “Ebert is a guy who we kind of got onto late. Worked him out this past week. He’s an impressive guy. Does a lot of things well. We feel that he is versatile and will be able to compete at that position for us as one of the younger players […]
