New England Patriots 2015 Training Camp Depth Chart

The Pats filled the last two open roster spots today, and neither one was with Reggie Wayne. The first was veteran cornerback Tarrell Brown and the second was undrafted rookie receiver Zach D’Orazio who was with the team previously this offseason

So this looks like what we’re rolling into camp with. A couple notes – names in red are guys with injury issues that could land them on the PUP. Once the PUP comes out next week I will adjust the depth charts accordingly. Rookies are in blue and generally I put them at the bottom of the depth chart to start camp. That will likely change quickly.

FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: 2014 Pressure Plays: Defenses

FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: 2014 Pressure Plays: Defenses

Very interesting rankings here, with the Patriots having a huge difference in their defense between when they got pressure and when they didn’t.

The Pats got pressure on the quarterback just 22.5% of their snaps, ranking them 25th in the league. However, when they did get pressure in those limited snaps, they were the best defense in the league. But when they didn’t get pressure they fell all the way to 27th in the NFL.

This goes back to something I find myself typing a lot – pressure can protect coverage deficiencies, but great coverage doesn’t matter without pressure. No secondary can cover forever.

In this context it seems more obvious why the Patriots have been loading up on the defensive front seven the last couple years without making any major long-term investments at cornerback (but with a sizable commitment to Devin McCourty at safety).

Getting pressure without blitzing is the key for the defense and now with guys like Easley, Hightower, Collins and others, they should have some versatile pieces to disguise where the four rushers are coming from, giving them the extra jump on the quarterback.

The PatsPropaganda 2015 Patriots Season Preview Magazine is now available for $4 here!

My favorite time of the summer is when the NFL preview magazines start hitting the stands. Inevitably I buy all them, turn immediately to the Patriots page and find myself disappointed. The coverage is never as accurate or in-depth as I hope, so this year I decided to do my own book.

Inside you’ll find over 30 pages of pure Patriots – Statistical and scheme analysis for both the offense and defense. Depth charts and write ups on all of the Patriots players headed to training camp.

In addition to that is a breakdown of the Top 5 positional battles for training camp as well as a game-by-game preview of the regular season.

I don’t think you’ll find a more in-depth season preview out there and for a mere $4 (one dollar for each Super Bowl) I think it’s a pretty good bargain considering what you’ll pay for a magazine with maybe two pages of inaccurate Pats stuff.

The fact that the average pressure of the Colts
balls was significantly above the prediction of the
Ideal Gas Law, while that of the Patriots balls was
not, is inconsistent with the findings of the Wells
report. Our conclusion that the warming of the
balls during halftime is the key factor overlooked
in the Wells report is supported by the
observation that the readings of the intercepted
Patriots football, measured separately from the
other Patriots balls, came in almost precisely at
the prediction of the law. Under the hypothesis
asserted by the Well report, the odds of this
Patriots ball matching the Ideal Gas Law
prediction were between 1 out of 3 and 1 out of
300. It is therefore unlikely that the Patriots
deflated the footballs.
