new england patriots

March 6, 2012 by Mike Dussault

Mario is making is making so much money and I think New England is going to be cognizant of Vince Wilfork’s $8 million a year. I think that’s one thing that the Patriots have done a great job of – they don’t bring anybody in the locker room that makes more than some of their own players and they don’t cause that dissention amongst their own team,” he said. “I don’t see that. I don’t think they’re going to spend that much money on one specific player. I think you’re going to see a lot of different players come in here and rebuild the defensive front, rebuild their offense a little bit, change their offense.

Some interesting takes on the Pats/Mario Williams compiled by Mike Reiss. I found this quote from Michael Lombardi to be the take that I most agree with. As much as we’d all lover to see the Pats make a big splash to get a player of Williams talent we can’t forget that this team has always been built on mid-range free agents and draft picks, making them strong from player one to player fifty three.

I think I’m more convinced than ever: The Patriots, who need major help on defense, should be at the front of the pursuit pack for Mario Williams, assuming the Texans don’t put the franchise tag on him.

Outside of offering him a Pats-friendly contract with hopes that he’s enticed to play in New England I don’t see them over-extending themselves to land him.

Wes Welker is a remarkable football player for our team and has been a vital component to our offense and special teams since we traded for him in 2007. Utilizing the franchise designation allows both sides more time to try to reach an agreement, which is the goal. Wes remains a contractual priority and we are hopeful that he will remain a Patriot for years to come

Keep hearing that the Patriots’ top priority on the free agent market will be receiver. Would have to think that Vincent Jackson (Chargers) and Mike Wallace (Steelers) are at the top of the list. Don’t see how San Diego can afford not to franchise Jackson and then at least trade him. I’d go with Jackson over Wallace despite Jackson being 29 and four years older. Both would require a pick and contract, most likely. Brandon Lloyd will be 31 in July, so he’ll be cheaper and won’t cost a pick.

We all know how Belichick likes veteran players on the end of the career like Andre Carter. With that being said, what do you think about the possibility of Justin Tuck being signed to fill that role next year?

I’d be all for it, I mean he was a big part of shutting down our offense in two Super Bowls and is just the kind of player they should add. But how much does he have left in the tank and how much would he want to stick in a similar 4-3 scheme as […]
