new england patriots

According to Howard Bryant of the Washington Post, citing NFL.com, “Lloyd suffered through the worst season for a starting receiver in the Super Bowl era… No starting No. 2 wide receiver in the NFL started more games (12) while producing less (23 catches, 365 yards).” Lloyd never made it out of Joe Gibbs doghouse, due to a questionable attitude and alleged poor work ethic. On Sunday, November 4, 2007, Lloyd was listed among Redskins inactives as the team traveled to play against the New York Jets. Citing the reason behind the move, Gibbs said that Lloyd had been told to remain behind in Washington as disciplinary action for missing important team meetings. Lloyd would spend the latter part of the 2007 season on injured reserve after having snapped his collar bone while making a diving touchdown catch during team practice. On February 26, 2008, the Redskins released Lloyd, who caught only two passes for 14 yards for the 2007 season.

Don’t mean to throw cold water on the bevy of media appearances Lloyd has made in the last two days expressing his interest in playing for the Pats, which are starting to reek a little of desperation, but let’s not forget how the Redskins couldn’t get rid of him fast enough.

Schematically signing Lloyd still makes sense given his production with McDaniels, and yes people do mature but it’s not like there’s zero question marks surrounding the potential for Pats interest in him.

PFF rated Wilfork as the game’s 6th-best run-stopper. Denver’s Brodrick Bunkley was tops with 11.3% stops. Wilfork made stops on 8.7% of the plays. In 334 run snaps, Wilfork had 34 tackles, four assists, with 29 “run stops” that killed the play.

It’s Friday!

With the start of Free Agency looming this Tuesday it’s time to start getting excited about the Patriots team-building process. They’ve got the cap room and plenty of their own free agents that they need to sign, so it should be an exciting week. Maybe that will make Monday a little less dreadful.

Patriots vs Colts – 2003

Classic Manning vs. Brady flashback. I had this as my #3 best Patriots win of the Colts rivalry. Willie McGinest running down the field after stopping Edgerrin James is a classic Pats dynasty moment.

Should the Patriots sign Joe Thuney long-term?

We were able to hear from LG Joe Thuney yesterday for the first time since the end of last season, when, in the immediate aftermath, I wasn’t so sure we’d see him in a Patriots uniform again. Thuney finished the final year of his rookie contract playing in a stricken offensive line unit whilst still […]
