Five Patriots to Watch in Training Camp

July 9, 2019 by Mike Dussault

16 days away and the excitement for training camp is building! At this point, it’s best to take final inventory of the most critical areas of focus because once you get to the fields with 90 guys running around it can be overwhelming.

We know that the core of this Patriots team has been to four of the last six Super Bowls and if they stay healthy there’s no reason to think they won’t be right back in their ninth-straight AFC Championship.

Life without Gronk will take some getting used to and replacing two of the top three offensive tackles won’t help. But by December they should have it all figured out even if there’s some bumps in the road.

Who are the players that could bring something new and exciting to the team this year? Here’s where my eyes when camp starts.

Let’s Talk Patriots Tight Ends

May 29, 2019 by Mike Dussault

With the announcement of Ben Watson’s four-game suspension, Austin Seferian-Jenkins missing in action at the first OTAs of the offseason and Gronk living his post-retirement dreams, the tight end position for the 2019 Patriots is very much up in the air.

Along with Gronk retiring, they traded away the oft-injured Jacob Hollister. Hollister made the team two years in a row and had plenty of spectacular training camp catches but it never panned out on the game field.

I can’t help but lament not hanging on to Dwayne Allen, who signed with Miami. He was never going to be a threat in the passing game really, but he at least gave them a strong NFL-caliber blocker.

Now I’m not sure they can even say that, at least for September. The Patriots are back at tight end ground zero.

The Post-Gronk Pats at Tight End

March 26, 2019 by Mike Dussault

After my too-long tribute to Gronk yesterday it’s now time to take stock of the Patriots without Rob Gronkowski. The formerly cap-strapped team now has $17.5 million in space, about as much as they started the offseason with.

There’s room for free agents and there’s definitely room for some draft picks. Let’s take a positional deep dive…who’s on the roster, the free agents available and the draft picks who would fit.

2013 Patriots Undrafted Free Agent Signings | NEPatriotsDraft.com – 2013 NFL Draft TJ Moe, WR, Missouri (5114 – 204 – 4.60) Moe is probably the best of the UDFA signing of the bunch thus far. I was mildly surprised he didn’t get drafted in the later rounds. Lack of straight speed is what likely dropped […]
