Logan Mankins presented by Bill Belichick, #39 in the NFL Top 100

Well this certainly won’t make anyone feel any better about potentially losing Mankins. I’m just ready for his situation to be resolved. We’re going on two years of Mad Mankins now. Someone just give him his money, preferably the Patriots, and if not, an NFC West team.

“I have spoken to Nate,” Mankins said at the Joe Andruzzi Golf Tournament today at TPC Boston. “He seems like a great guy. I gave him a little advice, and tried to help him out the best I can in the situation we’re in.”

“Well, this time, the Patriots gave him my number,” Mankins said. “I’m more than willing to help any young guy who needs anything. Look, he’s in a tough situation right now, He doesn’t know what’s going on. He has no coaches to talk to. He’s just trying to make it in this league.”

Interesting stuff here from Ian. Something tells me Mankins doesn’t really understand all this legal back and forth, but I’m sure being used as a pawn will just piss him off even more and make him a better guard for the Pats whenever the season starts.

This might be an obscure reference but it reminds me of how in One Crazy Summer the guys get Bobcat Goldthwait all fired up to row faster and faster by making up things their enemies said about his favorite wrestler Mr. Congeniality.

Go to :58 below to see what I’m talking about. And by the way this part of the movie was shot at Sesuit Harbor in East Dennis on Cape Cod, the harbor I spent summers in as a kid. The boat they’re driving sat dying in the harbor junk yard for about five years after this was shot.

Anyway, the Patriots should continue similar tactics with Mankins.

I’d add some commentary but the whole Mankins sitch is kinda nauseating so let’s just put what FO wrote:

Best player: Logan Mankins, Fresno State, 32nd overall to the Patriots. The back-to-back Super Bowl champions had a lot of positional flexibility with the last pick of the first round and used it wisely. The reason first-round guards tend to perform so well is because teams generally don’t draft guards in the first round unless they are exceptional prospects. Mankins was, and he has become one of the best guards in the league, even if his Pro Bowl nomination this year was ridiculous.

I think the agent, in this case, feels rhetoric helps to get deals done. We feel like we put a very fair offer on the table. We would like Logan to be a Patriot, retire a Patriot. He’s a great football player. But we’re not allowed to talk to Logan or his agent until all of this [labor situation] gets resolved.

Going back to last year, the Patriots have consistently made offers to Bauer that would put Mankins second or third among guards.

Several agents who represent high-performing offensive linemen and are familiar with the offer have said they would have taken the Patriots’ offer without much thought.

If Bauer insists on making Mankins the highest-paid guard in the league, maybe he should look elsewhere. In case Bauer hasn’t noticed, the Patriots aren’t in the habit of handing out premier contracts at any position besides quarterback.
