Kyle Arrington has re-signed with the Patriots on a four-year deal. This is another move that I was in favor of. I know a lot of Patriots fans aren’t big Arrington fans, but cornerbacks like him, that stay healthy, can play inside or out, and have experience in the system are hard to come by. He should excel if he’s kept inside in the slot, though he actually did a good job in the AFC Championship after Aqib Talib got hurt.

Good take from James Ermilio on one of the most polarizing players in the Patriots secondary. I agree with what he lays out. It’s nearly impossible to find versatile corners who can stay healthy. Arrington isn’t a shutdown corner, but when used right he’s really solid.
It’s easy to pick on corners because when they make a mistake it likely ends up on the scoreboard. But I think Arrington is a safe investment and should give the Pats some good depth at multiple spots in their secondary.
Although the market for CBs is inflated in a passing league, Arrington might still be had relatively cheaply. At 26, a two-year deal that keeps his cap hit manageable (he had an $825,000 base in 2012) should be doable for both sides. As a fan? All I ask is that you look beyond Arrington’s talk-radio reputation and appreciate him for what he is: a good, versatile, hard-working corner with room to grow.

KA gets a lot of flack on the internet, but I’m all for bringing him back if it’s to play the star position exclusively. He led the NFL in interceptions in 2011, is durable and can play a lot of different places. He’s good insurance all around.
There has been mutual interest between Kyle Arrington and the Patriots in keeping the cornerback with the team, and contract negotiations won’t be a sure thing.
Our charting numbers give Arrington 13.2 yards allowed per pass with 30 percent Success Rate through Week 10, which would be the worst numbers for any corner in the league over the course of a full season. In Weeks 11-15, Arrington allowed 4.4 yards per pass with 73 percent Success Rate.

There is plenty of work still to be done, but the Patriots have used Devin McCourty at left cornerback while rotating Arrington and Ras-I Dowling at right corner. With all three on the field at the same time, they might prefer Arrington in the slot because McCourty and Dowling seem to be more natural on the outside. If that’s how it shakes out in the regular season, Arrington wouldn’t have any gripes. “You have to see things quicker (in the slot),” Arrington said. “I like being where the action is.”

Arrington has everything you look for in a slot corner, and unmentioned in this article is how impressive a blitzer he is. Belichick has praised his ability to bend around the corner. Busting our Arrington as a defensive end was one of BB’s surprises for Peyton Manning in 2010.
