James white

July 31, 2015 by Mike Dussault

James White and Travaris Cadet may be after one role. The 2014 fourth-round pick left a strong impressing as he worked as a pass-catching back on Friday, looking smooth as he caught a pass thrown behind him at the knees and cut upfield in 7-on-7 work. And as for Cadet, who caught 38 passes for the New Orleans Saints last season, the back lined up out wide and beat linebacker Jamie Collins on a stutter fade, catching the ball overhead in the back of the end zone.

“Sweet Feet” James White 2013 Highlights [HD] – YouTube

I try not to put too much weight into reps early in training camp, but all signs are pointing to James White potentially stepping into a significant roles this year. Very interested to see how he looks in game action in a couple with pass blocking being a big key.

Here’s a bit of what White had to say on Friday:

“I am coming with a more aggressive approach,” White said. “I want to be aggressive in my technique and I want to go out here and be a reliable player. That is what I am going to try out and do every single day.”

With Vereen gone, White hoping for an expanded role

One of the most fascinating second-year players on the Patriots, and there are quite a few of them including Easley, Zach Moore, Cameron Gordon and of course Malcolm Butler.

James White 2013 Highlights

He won’t be the instant Vereen replacement, but James White will certainly get a chance to show his stuff this summer. Let’s remember he formed a prolific duo with this year’s top running back coming out in the draft, Melvin Gordon.

With a red shirt year under his belt, White will be one to watch in training camp.

I consider [White] my brother. There was never a time that I didn’t consider him that,” Bernard said. “His family did so much for me. And my family understands the extent that [the White] family went through for us and for me. No matter how many times you say thank you or do this or do that for them, it doesn’t go up to the point to how much they helped me out. Their family means a lot to me.

In First Patriots Training Camp Practice, James White Shows He Can Do a Little Bit of Everything | NEPatriotsDraft.com – 2014 NFL Draft

Really wouldn’t be surprised to see James White lead the team in yardage a couple times this season. Vereen and Ridley have had their issues and if they pop up again I think we’ll see a heavy dose of White in a variety of roles.

Patriots Film Review: Rookie Running Backs Vie For Top Reserve Role | New England Patriots | NESN.com

Nice review of two of the rookie running backs by Doug Kyed. Was putting together my training camp preview yesterday writing about these guys and I really think running back could be one of the more surprising positional battles of the summer. These two guys could play a large role this season.

Backup LeGarrette Blount has exactly 17 carries with a fullback on the field and 17 carries without. With one he averages 6.2 yards per carry, and without one he averages 2.5, which is the second biggest difference in the league. 32 Observations, Week 4 | ProFootballFocus.com
