Greg Cosell’s Film Review: How Denver’s D dominated the Patriots

Greg Cosell’s Film Review: How Denver’s D dominated the Patriots

Always enjoy Greg Cosell’s breakdowns even when they’re about the season-ender. It’s hard to believe the Patriots would be so slow, or even refuse outright to adjust to what Wade Phillips was doing on defense. They’ve seen it all before. How was there no counter punch to help Brady find a rhythm?

Defensively the Patriots had a sound plan as well. They were very multiple in this game. The Patriots played nickel on every passing snap, with 59 percent man coverage and 41 percent zone coverage. They were very multiple within the man coverage concepts too, switching up coverages the whole game. They played just one snap of “two shell” with two deep safeties the whole game. It was mostly either man coverage or “Cover 3” zone.

Greg Cosell’s Film Review: Patriots’ issues way deeper than Tom Brady | Shutdown Corner – Yahoo Sports

When Greg Cosell speaks about the Patriots we should all listen, and what he breaks down here (in far greater detail that I ever could) echoes what I’ve felt the biggest problem is right now. That of course is the OL isn’t very good, doesn’t have much experience, and Brady and the Patriots know it. The trickle down effect from that, even when the blocking is good, has permeated through the entire offense.

Again, the only way to fix it is to find the best starting 5 OL and just keep rolling them out there until the trust develops. It wasn’t there on Monday night, but that doesn’t mean they can string enough plays together to win on Sunday.

Haven’t posted enough Greg Cosell this season, this is a good x-and-o breakdown of how the Colts set up one of the big plays from last week.

Great first piece from new Globe NFL writer Ben Volin. You can’t go wrong with Greg Cosell. There’s too much good stuff in here, must read as always when Cosell talks Pats.
