Doug Flutie

September 3, 2011 by Mike Dussault

The history of New England Football and the Flutie family runs deep. Congrats to Alexa on making the squad, wonder if they’ll let her drop kick anything.

I used to play pick up hockey against Doug Flutie in Natick. He would show up with goalie pads and ask me to take breakaways on him. Even then he was uber competitive and a super nice guy. I’m never going to complain about another Flutie being around the Pats on game day.

Doug Flutie’s Patriots Drop Kick

February 9, 2011 by Mike Dussault

Here’s Doug Flutie executing the first successful drop kick in decades. This is yet another reason why I love BB. He has an appreciation for obscure records like this.

Growing up a couple towns over from Flutie’s hometown of Natick I used to play pick up hockey with him at West Suburban Arena. He would show up and play goalie, and seeing that I was pretty good he would ask me to take shots on him. He was competitive even then. A really great guy, and it was always fun scoring on him even though he wasn’t that good.

My guess is that for Sunday, we may see Gronk major more in low crossing routes, curls, outs, and isolated situations outside the numbers where boundary throws are less likely to draw contact from an unseen charging safety. Great X-and-O read from Matt Chatham! Football by Football
