deflategate

October 16, 2015 by Mike Dussault

lolpats:

Tom Brady The Dark Knight is 100% pure #Patriots pump-up porn at it’s best. As if we couldn’t wait for #NEvsIND

For the first time in a long time I allowed myself to relive every last bit of Deflategate and wow my blood is boiling once again. Sunday night can’t come fast enough.

Coin Flip-gate: Are the Patriots cheating the coin toss too?

September 30, 2015 by Mike Dussault

The coin toss to determine first possession in football dates all the way back to 1892, at the very start of the game itself. While the procedure has evolved in the last 123 years, it remains one of original tenets of the game of football.

But in the last year a trend has emerged that calls into question the integrity of this invaluable opening moment of a football game. The coin toss was expected to be a fair chance for each team to get their choice at the start of the game – whether to receive the ball, choose a side of the field to defend or to defer possession until the second half.

Each team should have a 50/50 chance at winning, but that’s not the case for teams playing the New England Patriots. Since the start of the 2014 regular season the Patriots have won and deferred on 17 of 22 coin flips. In those 17 games the Patriots are 15-2!

While the odds of winning a coin flip should be 50 percent, the Patriots are somehow winning at a rate of 77.3%. Inconceivable!

The coins are supplied by the referees and that points a direct line toward the NFL if the refs are using weighted coins to help the Patriots win the tosses. However the number of “deferrals” is closely split between home (ten games) and away (seven games), and since the away team calls heads or tails one might wonder if even the opponents themselves are in on giving the Patriots an unfair advantage over… themselves.

Or perhaps the simplest answer is strategic magnets placed in the Patriots’ captain’s equipment by Bill Belichick and Ernie Adams, specifically calibrated to make the coins do what the Patriots want them to. No one is better at post-snap adjustments than New England, why should we think any different about their post-toss adjustments?

According to some random coin toss probability finder I found on google the chances of the Patriots correctly hitting 17 of 22 flips is 1 in 159! So are we to assume that the Patriots not only dominate the NFL but probability science as well!?

As we know from all the numerous anonymous unsubstantiated claims against the Patriots, there’s a chance that they might cheat in a way that all other teams try but only the Patriots get blamed for. This is just the latest example of someone who is outraged (me) applying causation to correlation because I want the national media to pay attention to me and I hate the Patriots because they beat my team a bunch of times. And Tom Brady is smug. And Bill Belichick is mean.

This issue should be investigated by Don Van Natta Jr., Ted Wells, The Warren Commission, Magnum PI, Inspector Gadget and anyone else who has flawless integrity and is willing to publish unprovable dirty laundry at the behest of ESPN and their stable of former players who had their seasons ended at various points by Bill Belichick and the Patriots.

The coin toss is sacred and the Patriots can’t be allowed to get away with this any longer!!!!!!

South Park Eric Cartman is Tom Brady – YouTube

Usually South Park on Patriots crime just makes me sad, but this time it sums up the absurdity of Deflategate just perfectly.

I’ll just say, kind of tying this in with a couple of things from last week or earlier in the week, I just think overall, it’s kind of sad, really, to see some stories written that obviously have an agenda to them with misinformation and anonymous type comments. Writing about warm drinks and trash cans and stuff like that.  I think it’s just a sad commentary and it’s gone to a pretty low level.  Sunk pretty deep.

First of all, I would say that I think our program here is built on competition and trying to improve every day and trying to work hard. It’s not built on excuses. And we just try to go to work and improve and find a way to get better. This organization has won a lot of games, but particularly in reference to the great teams from 01, 03, 04 and all the great players that played on those teams… to take away from what those guys accomplished, how good they were, how many great players we had, how well they played in big games, how they consistently showed up and made big plays and game-winning plays, it’s just not right.

Bill Belichick (x)(x)

Should’ve posted this sooner but nice to see BB strike back a bit.

Greg Bedard’s Point After in this week’s SI is the perfect channeling of every single one of us Massholes who will go to the mat for Brady. We know the Ideal Gas Law. We know the leaks from the NFL office. We know the AEI report PROVES the FOOTBALLS weren’t even deflated. And we’re not going to take it anymore!!! Pick up this week’s SI to check out!

We’re on to… Spygate? Again?

September 8, 2015 by Mike Dussault

I took it slow over Labor Day weekend. With Deflategate appearing to be in the rearview mirror until at least after the season and the Patriots about to kickoff another season with a Super Bowl banner-hanging, it was nice to take a little break when it felt like there was non-stop Patriots news all offseason.

But what do I wake up to? Both ESPN and SI.com drop new articles that both rehash Spygate, but also play up every single silly rumor of anything the Patriots ever might’ve done.

The bottom line, the Patriots are firmly entrenched in the minds of every other NFL team.

But it’s extremely curious that two major outlets come out with essentially the same story, rehashing the same details, without any real new information, at the same time.

With all the NFL’s leaks during Deflategate, this certainly feels like their handy work in some part, because when you can’t attack someone’s argument, you attack their credibility. The NFL lost in court and now it’s a hard tack to “HERE’S EVERY RUMOR WE COULD EVER FIND ABOUT THE PATRIOTS MAKING THINGS HARD ON THEIR OPPONENTS”.

The ESPN article would almost have you believe it’s about how Deflategate was payback for Spygate. That’s interesting, and not surprising. But instead of really hitting on that, instead the focus is all the rumors that have built up over the years.

Now, there’s no actual proof nor are any of them technically against the rules, but that doesn’t mean everyone can’t cry about them? No one questions that the Patriots are ALWAYS competing. Always. Whether it’s at the scouting combine or Wednesday’s injury report. Everything they do has purpose toward winning.

Now where’s the line between gamesmanship and cheating in professional sports? It’s easy to get the hyper competitive asshole out of your men’s pickup basketball game, not so much in the NFL. To lose a job in the NFL you have to lose, and the Patriots don’t lose very often.

I really don’t want this to now take away from the start of the Patriots season. I worry that the team might be as tired of these media firestorms as I am and that it could affect their play. But there’s also some fun in being the big bad wolf.

None of the items mentioned in either article won any games for the Patriots, but the perception of them, a perception which these articles will cement in everyone’s minds, has certainly caused opponents to spend more time worrying than preparing and that’s what their effectiveness is.

Once again it feels like things are coming full circle. I started blogging roughly because of Spygate, and my first published article was about embracing the dark side. Here we are eight years later and not much has changed.

Appearing at the top of the last full page of the 40-page ruling is the list of claims from Brady and the NFL Players Association that Judge Berman saw no need to address, including: (1) whether Commissioner Roger Goodell was “evidently partial” in presiding over the appeal of Brady’s suspension; (2) whether Goodell’s conclusions regarding Brady’s knowledge of and involvement in the alleged deflation scheme exceeded the findings of the Ted Wells report; and (3) whether Goodell undermined his competency to serve as arbitrator by publicly praising the work of Ted Wells.

Judge Berman’s ruling may contain a warning for the NFL | ProFootballTalk

Pretty much every one of these additional list of claims are a slam dunk as well. So look forward to the NFL losing again on this in the distant future. Yay?
