Bottom Line Apparel

October 29, 2012 by Mike Dussault

Bottom Line Apparel presents The Bottom Line Patriots Player of the Week

It’s pretty hard to choose from all the deserving Pats after such a dominant win, but Gronk was absolutely unstoppable so it has to go to him. He’s been dealing with a lot of injury issues this year, but he looked like his 2011 self yesterday.

Check out these stats via Chris Price at WEEI:

Gronkowski has scored 34 touchdowns in 40 games in his career, and he now is marching through end zones and into history books in a fashion befitting his robotic Sunday celebration.

Gronkowski now has 11 games with multiple touchdown catches in his career. He joins Jerry Rice as the only players in NFL history with that many multi-TD games in his first three seasons; but Gronkowski, of course, still has eight games left this year to set a new standard. No tight end has come remotely close to such a figure.

Overall, Gronkowski now has 34 touchdown catches in his first 40 career games, the most in that number of games since Randy Moss started his career with 40 touchdowns in as many games between 1998-2000. (John Jefferson had 34 in his first 40 career games; Bob Hayes scored 35 touchdowns in his first 40 games; and Rice had 32 in his first 40 career games.)

Think about it: Ben Coates had nine games with multiple touchdowns in his long, illustrious career. It’s taken Gronkowski 2½ seasons to bulldoze past that standard.

This week’s Bottom Line Player of the Week is an easy choice for me. It’s a guy that I wasn’t overly impressed with based on what was available of YouTube highlights. A guy I put on my big board somewhat reluctantly. And a guy that suddenly became the fastest riser just a week before the draft.

Yes, I’m talking about Chandler Jones. Even after the Pats selected him, and pundits like Mike Lombardi and Mike Mayock were saying he could end up being the best player in the draft, we all still thought it would take some time for Jones to find his way. He needed to get stronger. He wasn’t explosive.

Well what a different a few months make. Jones seized his opportunity when Rob Ninkovich missed a couple training camp practices and he’s barely left the field since. We’ve known all along that a true elephant defensive end in the mold of Willie McGinest is the kind of player the Patriots truly needed to do all the things they want to be able to do.

Andre Carter was a great addition last year, but we knew he wasn’t the ideal right end because he wasn’t really suited to play in space. But now Jones has left us all saying “Andre who?” just one game into the 2012 season.

Jones has shown up in every aspect of the game. From getting pressure, to playing stout and aggressive at the point of attack. He is going to be a cornerstone in this defense for a long, long time, so this should be his first of many Bottom Line Player of the Weeks.

Bottom Line Apparel presents The Bottom Line Patriots Player of the Week

December 12, 2011 by Mike Dussault

Not too hard to decide who gets the Bottom Line player of the Week today, obviously it goes to the all-time touchdowns for a tight end in a season record holder Rob Gronkowski. Expect every single AFC East team to have stopping Gronk as one of their primary personnel acquisition motivations.

Bottom Line Apparel presents The Bottom Line Patriots Player of the Week

October 3, 2011 by Mike Dussault

We’ve got a new feature this week presented by Bottom Line Apparel, the appropriately titled Bottom Line Patriots Player of the Week. This is the one player who had the biggest impact on the victory or loss… you know, aka the bottom line.

This week it has to go to Wes Welker. This past off-season we were preaching to all those who’d listen that Welker was going to torch the NFL this year and so far he’s done just that. Despite media reports how he was now on the wrong side of 30, had a tough 2010 with a lot of dropped balls and looked like he was regressing Welker has been on a record pace for receptions.

He continues to be Tom Brady’s safety net and it should be a fantastic match-up to see Revis against Welker next weekend.

So congrats to Welker, the Bottom Line Patriots player for Week Four! Visit Bottom Line Apparel below for a great deal on some great Patriots swag!
