I think will allow us to collect more data real time in the field, have the draft evaluation process done quicker and sooner, and allow the coaches, if they want to in season, because they’re trying to evaluate a position now and thinking about the next year, [find out] are there going to be guys in the draft? In the old days, you’d have to pick up the phone and call upstairs and talk to somebody upstairs. Now, if Bill is interested, he’ll be able to go to his tablet or go to his desktop and in a very efficient and very multimedia way and get real data instantly…

Brady was rated pretty highly on the board and in the fifth round — we took Brady in the sixth — Bill walked over to the board and picked up Brady’s card, looked at Scott, and said ‘what’s Brady still doing here? There’s too much value to be sitting here. This kid’s a winner.’

For New England, paying Revis a $1.5 million roster bonus, a $1.5 million workout bonus, and a $13 million base salary could be a much more desirable alternative than giving a big-money, multi-year deal to Aqib Talib.

Pats, Broncos could be trying to shake Revis free from Tampa | ProFootballTalk

I love the offseason! If you don’t know by now, the Pats are always attached to just about every juicy rumor. Most of the time I think it’s just agents trying to scare the rest of the league into getting in on the player to at least prevent Belichick from getting him.

Is there any truth to this one? Maybe. At the very least it might send a small message to Talib that they’re not married to him.

Ultimately, I’d be surprised if the Pats got Revis, but I’ve been surprised many times by BB before and I’m looking forward to it happening again.

Kraft also dispelled a theory that Belichick always looks for “yes men” in the front office. Kraft said Belichck likes to keep a small inner circle to prevent leaks to the media. He likes to hire young executives because he likes training them to run a football team, and they bring a different technological approach.

Never bought the “Belichick doesn’t have enough people willing to go against him” storyline. One of the big parts of Education of Coach was mentioning how much he wanted people to have different ideas and to challenge him.

Bill Belichick’s Patriots are the only team to exist outside of these rules. Their middle rounds were littered with guys who did nothing, or next to nothing, in the NFL. Their draft success ranked in the bottom third of the league during these seasons. But even in 2009, those guys made up a large chunk of the roster. Nearly a third of the roster was made up of guys who were never drafted at all; the Patriots signed them for cheap and plugged them right in.

Patriots leave door open for Greg Schiano

February 23, 2014 by Mike Dussault

I’d love to see Schiano on BB’s staff with so many of his former players already here. Between him and Lombardi there would be a good influx of new ideas and perspective.

Source on Schiano and #Patriots: “Sounds like he could go if he wants, but also considering taking the year off or doing media.”

When we evaluate players, it’s a long, thorough process we go through. Obviously it’s very inexact. We’ve been right on players, we’re been wrong on players, just like every other team, every other coach, and every other personnel person has. So we do the best we can. It’s a long process that involves visiting the school, interviewing with the player, talk with the people who have had the most involvement with him, like his coaches, college coaches, high school coaches, even beyond that. Other people that have had associations with him, former teammates, so forth and so on. It’s a mosaic composed of a lot of different pieces and you try to fit them all together and put some type of evaluation on the player. You do that for all the players. Each one is different. Each one is unique. But at the same time you have to have some type of system that accounts for what you feel the player’s value is to your football team. That’s what it’s all about.
