In the film room it just feels different, being in there my second year, I just feel more comfortable so I’ve just got to build off what I left off last year,” he said. “Coming into this offense, it was definitely a lot, a lot thrown on a rookie’s shoulders to do, but I think I handled it pretty well, coming into my second year feeling more comfortable so I just have to build off that.

Pats ceiling as an offense just might be determined by how big of a step Dobson, Thompkins and Boyce take this year.

Aaron Dobson might be ready for training camp. The New England Patriots wide receiver missed spring practices after undergoing offseason surgery on his foot, but there is now optimism that Dobson will be ready in time for training camp, according to a source.

Good news for Dobson, he’s got to take a starting job, one certainly won’t be handed to him, especially with Thompkins and LaFell in the mix.

Dobson, who led a host of Patriots rookie receivers with 519 yards in 2013, improved greatly before a foot injury put a damper on the end of his season, ultimately leading to surgery in March. The former second-round pick has the quickness to beat press coverage and an ability to make some spectacular catches, despite having relatively small hands. He can make adjustments on the ball and is a good blocker for a receiver. He’s got some special stuff about him. Projection for 2014: 75 catches, 1,100 yards, seven touchdowns.

I’ll sign up for that. What a season that would be for Dobson!

Here’s your “start of free agency” buzz kill. Unfortunate that Dobson couldn’t get healthy with rest and so much for working with Brady during the offseason…

Dobson has maintained regular contact with Brady this offseason as a way to increase their chemistry, even just while discussing the game over the phone. And Dobson said he’ll absolutely join Brady this offseason in Los Angeles, where the quarterback likes to run strenuous practices with his pass catchers. So, even though Dobson has been limited physically through the early portion of the offseason calendar, he’s got a full rundown of plans to ensure more consistency in 2014.

Interesting on Dobson’s foot, looks like it was a little worse than anyone realized. Or at least it lingered far longer than expected. The good news is his plan to join Brady in LA this offseason for workouts. That is priceless.

Is Aaron Dobson the Big Play Receiver the Patriots Need? – Frenz/Bleacher Report

Great read from Frenz and the perfect way to kick off a holiday-shortened four-day work week.

One of the biggest unknowns this offseason is how the Patriots felt about the progress of their young receivers. I don’t think anything will be off the table if they like a free agent or prospect.

Good stuff from Nick, and I wonder if the Pats could slide him inside to help stretch things up the seam a bit. Not sure if he has the physicality to fend off linebackers and safeties though. We’ll see, he should get thrown right into the mix this weekend.
