Patriots rookie Dustin Woodard retiring from the NFL – Team also release DE Nick Coe

August 13, 2020 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

News coming in just now that rookie Center Dustin Woodard has informed the team that he is retiring from professional football, before ever playing in a competitive game.

As training camp roars on towards the regular season, be sure to keep up with the latest Patriots betting odds, here’s an interesting website to check sports results.

#Patriots rookie center Dustin Woodard is retiring, source said. The seventh-round pick from Memphis’ decision isn’t COVID-19 related — he’s simply decided to walk away.

Drafted by the Patriots in the seventh round this year, Woodard would have been competing to back up David Andrews, who recently returned after a season off through illness. Luckily, the Patriots signed Tyler Gauthier yesterday and he will now be in the mix for a roster spot.

The decision, according to reports, isn’t anything to do with the current on-going COVID-19 situation, more a case of Woodard losing the desire to play football.

The Patriots also released DE Nick Coe today. Coe was initially projected to go in the mid-late rounds in this year’s draft, went undrafted, and was picked up by the Patriots in May.

New: #Patriots rookie offensive lineman Dustin Woodard has retired. COVID-19 had nothing to do with the seventh-round selection's decision, per league source. Additionally, the team released undrafted rookie DE Nick Coe. Story upcoming at https://t.co/BIqlcKzPKK

After just a few training sessions, he’s been informed of his release. Nothing much to say about this, Coe had some character concerns coming out of Auburn and was on the bubble to make the PS in my opinion.

With 4 current roster spots freed up, keep an eye out for a few more additions over the weekend to fill depth at positions of need (Tackle, TE, LB, K).

Current DE depth – Lawrence Guy, John Simon, Deatrich Wise Jr., Nick Thurman, Chase Winovich

PFF/Palazzolo: Re-Focused Patriots @ Steelers

PFF/Palazzolo: Re-Focused Patriots @ Steelers Good stuff as always from Palazzolo and here’s your Gary Guyton nugget… LB Gary Guyton (-3.1 Pass Cov) saw 32 plays in coverage, and managed to give up first downs on all four completed passes in his area. He even benefitted from two Pittsburgh dropped passes. Many will point to […]
