Patriots’ Mike Wright to IR, Deaderick back in fold

January 7, 2011 by Mike Dussault

The Patriots announced today that Mike Wright was put on IR ending his season. In what is likely a related move Brandon Deaderick was un-suspended.

If reports earlier this week that Wright’s concussion was so bad he couldn’t even watch TV were true then this move really isn’t all that surprising. Luckily Myron Pryor is back in the fold and should be able to provide at least some interior pass rush.

Rumors had swirled this week that Deaderick had faced multiple discipline problems for things like being late to meetings this season. Apparently this suspension was a way of letting him know how thin the ice was for him.

With the loss of Wright and limited bodies on the defensive line the Patriots rescinded his suspension and moved him back to the active roster. Hopefully it taught him a lesson. Thought it kinda reminds me when you give a toy back to a kid just to get him to stop crying.

The Pats are assured of facing a team in the first round that will want and need to run the ball. Deaderick played a lot of snaps against the Ravens in particular the first time around, so clearly having a big body around like his is something they will need.

There’ll be none of this next weekend…
