It was interesting to me today that Bill Belichick had the team out in full pads. He wanted to work on run defense. Setting the edge. 167 rushing yards allowed in the first quarter of that Dec. 18 game between the Patriots and Broncos. He wants those edge setters to be better than they were in that game in the first quarter. That’s why he had them out in pads, wanted them to bang a little bit and get that run defense shored up.

Any ideas about how the Pats defensive schemes might change with the changes in personnel? Collins/Anderson for Spikes/Fletcher, additions of Revis/Browner, Easley — even McCourty from CB to S — all seem like attempts to counter high flying passing attacks (most obviously the Broncos). Wondering whether we’ll see some schematic changes as well.

I think the most interesting place to start has to be at linebacker.
