You’ve Got Patriots Qs, I’ve got Patriots As

Friday Q & A is a go! Lots of great questions already this week, what’s on your mind today Pats peeps?

On any typical non-pressure, man-to-man defense, it’s a simple math proposition: there are five eligible pass catchers on the field and seven pass defenders (assuming a typical four-man rush), meaning you have two “help” chess pieces available. You can use the two extra defenders as zone players in the deep halves of the secondary; everyone else plays man-to-man with no low help. Another option is using one deep, middle-of-the-field safety, affording the defense one underneath coverage “help” zone player (the “rat”). Alternatively, the help player can be used to specifically double one receiver, while still keeping a deep middle of the field safety — but then the zone helper is gone.

All of this led to the decision this week to bring in noted orthopedic specialist Dr. James Andrews to sign off on whether Gronkowski is indeed ready to play, taking the decision out of the hands of the Patriots, Gronkowski and Dr. Gill.

Wow, let’s hope we get our Gronk back.

Hey am a cowboys fan, I live in Texas and I really hate anyone who is a boys fan and isn’t from or lives in Texas(Oklahoma, New Mexico don’t have teams) so that brings me to my question What is you’re opinion on post 2001 patriot fans?

One of my favorite parts of this blog has been getting to know Patriots fans around the world. There’s no question that success has opened the door to a whole bunch of new people cheering on the Pats.

Of course, local Patriots fans are among the most passionate and knowledgeable in the NFL. They’ve sat on the aluminum benches of Sullivan Stadium and seen some grim times.

Now, with the infusion of fans from the 00’s till now, are there bandwagoners hanging around who don’t really know what they’re talking about? Oh yeah.

But there’s also a lot of people who live many miles from New England and care very passionately about the team.

So ultimately I just think it’s fun having a lot of people aboard, even the ones who think bringing Randy Moss back is going to solve anything.

Talib is certainly beginning to prove himself as a premier shutdown corner, but so far this season the pats secondary has been having serious problems against #2 receivers. What do you think about the defense’s ability to cover another superhero tight end in Graham while also dealing with the likes of Colston on the outside?

Someone’s been reading Football Outsiders, eh?

Honestly, just fake game planning for the Saints offense in my head gives me the shakes. Part of me wonders if you throw all the matchups out the window and just focus on playing good D regardless of who goes where. Of course the scary thing there is when suddenly Jimmy Graham is on Arrington or Dennard. At least both of them are physical despite having a size disadvantage.

The thing I wonder is will the Saints be tempted to attack the Pats’ weakness at defensive tackle with their running game at the expense (somewhat) of their passing attack?
