New England Patriots Rookie, Free-Agent Midseason Progress Report
My Friday B/R column is up, looking at the rookies and free agents. Pats will need a lot of them to really step up in the next two months.
Aaron has grown since the time he got here and his caliber of play and his level of execution, his understanding of our offense, has gone up significantly,“ Brady said. "He has a big role in our offense and we count on him to make the plays when his number is called. He made a bunch of them last week. He has to go do it again.”

Three months removed, it’s clear that Ryan Allen should have replaced the incumbent Zoltan Mesko as the New England Patriots punter. The rookie is 2.7 yards off the league lead in punting average (46.2), and 2.9 yards off the pace in net average (43.4). The Pittsburgh Steelers, meanwhile, released Mesko, earlier this week after a disappointing start to the year.

Interesting read on a position that isn’t often interesting to read about.

Maybe I shouldn’t say this but I’m not-so-patiently waiting for the “click” game for the Patriots offense, as in the game where suddenly everything just clicks. Sometimes these games only happen once per season (see Titans 2009), but I think the Pats are due and getting healthier every week.
Doesn’t mean it definitely will happen this week, but given the avalanche of criticism on Brady and his history against the Steelers, there’s a pretty good chance.
If it’s not, I think we can expect this will go down to the fourth quarter like they always do this season.
If McCourty is able to make it to the Pro Bowl at a different position this time around, he would join some ridiculously elite company. Historically, the players who have made the Pro Bowl at two defensive back spots – specifically going from corner to safety – are some of the best in the history of the game. Rod Woodson and Ronnie Lott made the transition and enjoyed great success over the course of their careers after they moved to the back end of the defense.

The Patriots host the NY Giants in the first game for pre-season So football is back… kinda. Sure, it’s only the first game of the pre-season, and spoiler alert the Patriots didn’t win, but there was plenty to be positive about, even if there is some to still have those concerns over. You all know […]
