Why do you think mankins play has been so poor this season

November 16, 2013 by Mike Dussault

I’m as surprised as anyone. I thought a year removed from an ACL injury he’d have a great season. He could be fighting an injury of some kind as well. Remember he played a chunk of 2011 on a torn ACL.

He’ll have his work cut out for him this week. It’s the perfect chance to turn his season around.

Can I just put it out there that I am so nervous for this season because we did so good last year and I though this would be our year but it’s definitely not and it’s making my life much more stressful.

If it’s not our year there should be nothing to worry about, right? I haven’t given up hope just yet on this season. When you look at the AFC it’s still not a stretch to see the Pats as the last team standing.

Beating the top NFC team might be another matter in the Super Bowl, but in one game anything can happen. The next two games will tell us a lot about the 2013 Pats.

They will fight down to the end, it’s just a question if the injuries catch up to them in key spots. So far they’ve overcome.

In my opinion, [it’s] by far the most impressive performance in any season that Tom has had,” Brett Favre said on the NFL Network earlier this season. “I know the numbers are not Tom Brady-like numbers. But based on the situation, the cast around him, the fact he is more of a player-coach, which is always tough – you’re teaching in the huddle, at the line, getting guys lined up. It is a testament to how good he really is.

Tight end Rob Gronkowski’s return to the field has added a dimension to the Patriots’ offense that they sorely lacked in their six games without him. Gronkowski has been New England’s leading receiver in two of his three games, and has earned a grade of 1.5 or better in all three. The former Arizona Wildcat star has played limited snaps as he works himself back into football shape, and has been used more as a receiver than in his traditional role of do-it-all tight end. The sooner that he can get back to playing every offensive snap, the better, as Gronkowski has finished in the Top 5 in cumulative run blocking grades among tight ends in each of his first three seasons. His contributions as a receiver cannot be understated though: Gronkowski’s 3.42 Yards per Route Run would lead all tight ends by more than half a yard if he had played enough snaps to qualify.

The key to this game is starting fast. Carolina is undefeated this year when they go up by more than one score. Conversely, they struggle to play from behind; the largest deficit that they’ve overcome is the 9 points that they trailed the 49ers by last week (they won 10-9). If the Pats can start fast and play with a lead it puts Carolina’s offense in a position it doesn’t want to be in. However, if you spot tem a lead, beating them will be difficult because their defense protects the lead well.

Yeah, I totally agree and that’s a little bit why I don’t love it that we’re coming off the the bye and the execution might be a little rusty. But yeah, put the Panthers in a hole and take their running game out of it to some extent and the game starts to favor the Pats. Make Cam throw from the pocket and it’s a recipe for success.
