ICYMI – Does the Patriots’ run defense really matter?
Yesterday’s B/R column in case you missed it. Long article short, run defense doesn’t really matter as long as your offense and pass defense are solid. Those are the teams that win Super Bowls.
Part of it has to do with the weather early in the season and I’m sure that factored into managing Ridley a bit, he seemed to wear down a bit at the end of last season. But there’s no question they had to find out what they had with their passing game early in the season, so we saw a lot of different options. Now they’re settling in with what they like best – Dobson at the X, a rotation of Edelman and Amendola at the Z, and Gronk in the middle.
It will be interesting to see if there are any adjustments to that coming out of the bye week. Perhaps Amendola starts to get more time than Edelman.
Ultimately, I think the Pats drew up each game plan mainly being what they thought they needed to do to win.
