why are analysts so short sighted? why do they focus so much on numbers without looking at the context? they seem to never learn. they make mock drafts only have to guys with great numbers becomes busts and then they give the quarterback with the best numbers the MVP award. they never seem to consider the supporting cast surrounding the qb and the quality of teams he faced

It’s the problem with trying to predict what will happen. No one really knows for sure and while there are certainly things you look for in scouting a player, whether or not he puts it all together, clicks with the quarterback, etc. is up to what’s inside him.

Upsets will always be what makes sports great, but they’re only upsets when all the “analysts” pick a favorite.

I think a team that shows how our season could’ve went is the Atlanta Falcons. Both teams have key players on both sides of the ball on IR and have rookies (both drafted and undrafted) starting for their respective teams. Yet we are postseason bound and the falcons have had a very disappointing season. I think this is something for people (experts and fans alike) should consider when looking at this patriots team. All that being said, what do you think the main difference between them is?

Interesting point. Hard for me to speak on what the Falcons’ problems have been, but the Patriots have a pretty unique recurring characteristic of coming back after being down by a lot. Tom Brady’s a big part of that difference as well.

In a league rigged to drag everyone back to the pack, the New England Patriots do things they have no business doing to the rest of the league. They win with guys other teams don’t want. They win with guys nobody else wanted to draft. They win with guys who then leave and don’t do jack elsewhere. They win, they win, they win.

Ryan now has five interceptions on the season, which leads all NFL rookies. Asked how he’d like to be viewed as a player, he said, “Hard worker. Not [just] on Sundays, but during the week. I want to be consistent. It’s great to have interceptions, but you have to be consistent 50 other plays in the game. I just want to be known as someone who works hard each and every day and is consistent out there.”

But it was even more that ranked this victory in such lofty status over the past 14 years, as it was how the Patriots achieved the end result that was so impressive. Their physicality shined, and a commitment to the running game was a change from the norm. The defense got back to its turnover-producing roots and special teams played tight against a dangerous foe.
