Taking stock of Patriots’ salary cap – New England Patriots Blog – ESPN Boston

Taking stock of Patriots’ salary cap – New England Patriots Blog – ESPN Boston

Good update, I think something internal has to happen with one of the situations laid out by Reiss here. Wilfork is likely seeing what other teams might be willing to pay him and should make a decision soon I’d guess.

I do wonder how that whole mechanism is working. Do the Pats have to give him permission to talk to other teams? Or is Vince just stewing and the Pats are just sitting and letting him stew. I’d guess they’re letting him see what’s out there.

Adrian Wilson is an interesting guy to watch, and not just because he’s sitting on No. 24 as the Patriots still haven’t given Revis a number in their presale of his jersey.

Expect something to happen on this front in the next two days…

Boston Herald: Patriots propose four rules changes, including extending extra points

Boston Herald: Patriots propose four rules changes, including extending extra points

I’m on board with all of these…

1. Extend extra points: Move the line of scrimmage to the 25-yard line, which would make an extra point a 42- or 43-yard field goal, depending on the kicking unit’s spacial preference. Bill Belichick has often voiced his annoyance with how easy the extra point has become. Currently, the line of scrimmage is on the 2.

2. Raise goal posts: Extend the length of the goal posts by 5 feet. Remember, Vince Wilfork and the Patriots were heated during a 2012 regular-season loss to the Ravens, whose game-winning field goal appeared to cross directly over the goal post. The replacement officials determined the kick was not reviewable.

3. Add boundary cameras: Place fixed cameras on key boundary lines (end zone) for better views on instant replays.

4. Expand instant replay: Allow coaches to challenge all rulings except scoring plays, which are already automatically reviewable. As it stands, some random rules are not reviewable.

What do you think the pats are going to do with the offensive line

March 19, 2014 by Mike Dussault

At this point I think you bring back Wendell and then, at the very, least you have last year’s line as insurance. But then I’d really target an interior linemen in the draft, whether it’s a center or guard, in the second or third round and at least keep the door open for a rookie to come in and start.

Haven’t heard much buzz if they’re trying to extend Connolly to reduce his cap hit and with a hole already at center it doesn’t make much sense to cut him as well.

It’s funny how not many people seem to mention that they really don’t have a starting center right now, unless you’re in the “slide Connolly back to center and put Cannon at right guard” camp, but I still think that’s less than ideal and I believe Cannon is ultimately a tackle with some guard versatility in a pinch.

Report: Patriots inquire about DeSean Jackson

March 18, 2014 by Mike Dussault

League source has told me eagles are listening to offers for desean jackson.. patriots and niners have inquired. #Eaglestalk

It’s already Tuesday night and it was surprising that the ever-churning Patriots rumor mill hadn’t found something new to glom onto, and alas, here we go…

Look, I think the Patriots do their due diligence on any and everyone that is or could potentially become available. It doesn’t mean they’re actively pursuing him, it means they likely asked what it would take to get him and are weighing the value and risks of that compensation.

But this would certainly put the “Patriots need a deep threat” crowd into a frenzy. On the field there’s no question that DeSean Jackson would add an element that has been missing since Randy Moss circa mid-2009ish.

Is he worth all the other baggage he comes with off-the-field and in the locker room? That’s for the Patriots to ultimately decide.

We’ll see how it all unfolds over the next few days, but as I see it, there are far bigger needs in the front seven and offensive line than the one to take a chance on someone like Jackson. I’d still prefer Kenny Britt if he’s still potentially in the mix.

This –>

Two things: 1. #Eagles love trades & owe it to themselves to listen on a player with that price tag. 2. Pats love to inquire on everyone
