Patriots Add Inman to Intriguing Receiver Group

May 13, 2019 by Mike Dussault

There isn’t much assured after Julian Edelman when it comes to Patriots wide receivers, but after adding Dontrelle Inman they now have a fascinating array of options to play a new key role.

Here’s how the group of ten break down:

Patriots Adding Comp-Free Vets

May 10, 2019 by Mike Dussault

With veterans no longer counting against the compensatory pick formula, the Patriots have added two veterans, tackle Jared Veldheer and tight end Ben Watson that won’t cost them any of their projected four comp picks.

The moves are no brainers at positions in transition, with each on a low-risk one-year deal. The moves continue an approach to throw as much as possible at the wall when there’s positional uncertainty.

Combined, the team lost five “starters” at tight end and tackle and after the draft they still need all the help they can get, especially trying to make up for what they lost in Rob Gronkowski piecemeal. It’s gonna take a lot of pieces.

Rodney Harrison Voted Into Patriots Hall of Fame

May 7, 2019 by Mike Dussault

Rodney Harrison beat out Mike Vrabel and Richard Seymour to become the latest former member of the dynasty voted into the Patriots Hall of Fame. I’m going to be honest, I would’ve gone Mike Vrabel over him, but Rodney’s deserving nonetheless.

Let’s take a quick look back at Harrison’s tenure with the Patriots and the most memorable moments.

Four Best Patriots Rookie Free Agents Roster Bets

May 6, 2019 by Mike Dussault

The Patriots officially announced 10 rookie free agent signings and with plenty of roster turnover this year, it’s a good bet one or two could make the roster.

Here’s a quick look back at the undrafteds that made the team over the last decade. As David Andrews confirmed, everyone is on a level playing field once they arrive in Foxboro, whether they were a high-round pick, a high-priced free agent or even a “drafterthought”.

  • 2008: Ryan Wendell, Benjarvus Green-Ellis, Gary Guyton
  • 2009: Brian Hoyer
  • 2010: Dane Fletcher, Sergio Brown, Kyle Love, Ross Ventrone
  • 2011: Jeff Tarpinian
  • 2012: Brandon Bolden, Justin Francis
  • 2013: Joe Vellano, Kenbrell Thompkins
  • 2014: Malcolm Butler
  • 2015: David Andrews, Brandon King
  • 2016: Jonathan Jones
  • 2017: Adam Butler, Harvey Langi, Jacob Hollister, Cole Croston, Keionta Davis (IR)
  • 2018: JC Jackson, Frank Herron (PS)

Who might have the best chance to make this year? Let’s take a look.

Notes from the Film Room: Projecting Patriots 2019 Rookie Class

May 2, 2019 by Mike Dussault

I’ve spent the past week diving into any Patriots rookie film I can find and obviously there’s a ton out there. Each player sure has their Patriots-esque traits and seeing why the team picked them was pretty clear in almost every case.

How does each new rookie pick fit in? What’s their ceiling and who will they be in direct competition with? Let’s dive in now that I have a much better sense of all of them.

Pats Posits: 2019 Draft Recap

April 29, 2019 by Mike Dussault

The Patriots wrapped up their 2019 draft this weekend and unfortunately due to all kinds of personal craziness, including Endgame and GOT, I haven’t been able to sit down and bang a blog out until right now. It was tough, especially with redacted dying.

In truth, this is my favorite part of the draft now — when the Pats have their collection of draft picks and undrafted signings and I can dive in on each of them with purpose.

Instead of going through player-by-player, at this point I feel like I just need to get my reactions all off my chest so what better way to do that than with a bunch of Monday morning Posits.

Patriots Select WR N’Keal Harry in First Round

April 26, 2019 by Mike Dussault

The Patriots didn’t make their 32nd overall pick until close to midnight on Thursday but it was well worth the wait for me as they selected wide receiver N’Keal Harry, a player I had in my one and only mock draft of the spring.

I spent much of the last week expressing how much I wanted the Pats to pick a “presence” player, especially at wide out and tight end and that’s exactly what Harry is — a super competitive big receiver willing to do the dirty work.

How does Harry fit? Let’s dive in with some highlights and scouting reports.

2014 NFL Draft Close-Up: Florida Defensive Lineman Dominique Easley | NEPatriotsDraft.com – 2014 NFL Draft Great and thorough read on Easley from Oliver Thomas.
