“There’s a difference between a Pro Bowler and a Hall-of-Famer. Aqib Talib is a Pro Bowl-type player. I don’t think anybody will argue how good he played in his year and a half here. Certainly showed the characteristics of a guy who can be a five-time Pro Bowler if you sign him to a five-year deal. [Revis] is a Hall-of-Famer. This is what Randy Moss was in 2007.
"The way it was explained to me at least is, when you look at it, the reason why you keep that financial flexibility is when a rare opportunity like this comes along … there are only so many of these types of players on the entire planet. When you have that opportunity you try and go and get them. You maintain financial flexibility so in these types of cases you have that flexibility to go and strike, and this is a rare, rare, player.”

Wilfork likely had to sacrifice some money in the short term, although we will have to see the structure of the contract to know for sure, and understand exactly how much. It appears that whatever he gave up in the short term, he has a chance to earn back in future years, with even more upside.

From your perspective rank the remaining patriots needs
- Center – at this point I’m fine re-signing Wendell, but I’d look long and hard at the centers (and guards) at the top of the draft to compete for a starting spot.
- Defensive End – not sure what Free Agency options are left that still work. This is very surprising. Is Buchanan ready to make a jump? But just Nink and Chandler at the top? A little scary.
- Tight End – Gronk is progressing, Hooman is returning, but definitely need more depth, preferably a big inline blocking Y. And if they want to grab an F like Owen Daniels that works too.
- Running Back – Think LeGarrette Blount returns now that Moreno landed, but another guy who can catch would be good. I think they could add that guy in the draft.
- Linebacker – a coverage guy who can play special teams. Maybe Beauharnais can step up. Looking at Wills in the draft.
Those are the general ones, I think otherwise they’re in pretty good shape to go into the draft without major needs if they fill those spots. Would still be fine adding another interior OL, some DT depth, and a big safety as well but I don’t see those as red alert needs.
Time to get Blount back in the fold?
