Which do you think makes teams more cautious about prospects: injury prone or character problems

April 30, 2014 by Mike Dussault

I’d go with character problems. I’ve never really believed that “injury prone” is truly a thing. There needs to be a study on it. There are certainly a small percentage of guys that truly are frail, but just because a guy has a couple injuries, even if they’re major, doesn’t necessarily make him injury prone.

The way “injury prone” gets thrown around you’d think 50 percent of the guys in the league are injury prone. Football’s a tough sport, a lot of times you’re just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

And there’s certainly an art to avoiding unnecessary contact.

The real injury prone guys are the ones with constant muscle problems -pulled hamstrings, hip flexors, stuff like that. Pretty much what we saw out of Ras-I Dowling.

But contact injuries can happen to anyone. Sometimes it’s just bad luck.

Who’s production is more important for the offense, Dobson or gronk

April 30, 2014 by Mike Dussault

Gotta go with Gronk on that one. If Dobson isn’t producing they have options behind him. I already think LaFell and Thompkins will push Dobson at the X as it is.

As for Gronk, if he’s not producing it’s likely because he’s not on the field, and if he’s not on the field the Pats don’t have many options behind him. Yeah, they got by last year with the Hooman, and maybe they sign Dustin Keller and he helps matters, but there’s just no substitute for the best tight end in the game.

Pre-Draft NFL Roster Rankings – Offseason Low Down – Rotoworld.com

Pats at number four. I’d add a little more commentary to the offensive line tidbits and the defensive line questions (Siliga/Armstead). But hard to complain about having the 4th best roster pre-draft and there’s little doubt they’ll improve next week as well.

I saw that Dustin Keller visited the pats, if he signs what should they expect from him since he too is coming off of a knee injury

April 30, 2014 by Mike Dussault

I’d be all for that signing. His agent says he’s ready to go but you have to take that with a grain of salt. I’m sure the Pats’ doctors are giving him a thorough checkout.

If he can get back to his previous level he’d be a great piece in this offense and really the first legitimate guy who could replace some of what Aaron Hernandez did for the offense.

In Belichick’s A Football Life, he specifically points out Keller as someone they must take away from Sanchez. Anytime BB praises an opposing player there’s probably a pretty good chance he’ll kick the tires on him if given the chance.

There could be a lot of questions at tight end for the Pats this summer and early in the season. But if they were to have a healthy and peaking Gronk and Keller for the playoffs… oh boy.

Jamie Collins getting some love here. It was pretty crazy how he just exploded onto the scene in the playoffs. Obviously he had a huge game against the Colts that no one saw coming and I thought he was pretty solid against the Broncos as well.

Not sure he’ll come off the field this year.
