Stork, who at 6-foot-3 7/8 and 315 pounds, brings a bigger body type to the position (Wendell is 6-2, 300). The Patriots have been vulnerable at times to inside pressure (think AFC championship game vs. Broncos), especially against bigger nose tackles, and Stork could ultimately be part of the solution.

Rodgers was drafted when Favre had years left and the Packers had other needs. Garappolo doesn’t have an extremely big arm but he has nice touch. I’d rather we took a QB with his sort of intangibles and then worked on him throwing the ball with more velocity and fitting it into tight windows. It’s not like we’re starting from scratch. He is very good. I don’t think Brady would have been bothered in the slightest by the pick. It was a smart pick. BB has seen something and thinks he will work.

Was up late last night watching every bit of film on Garoppolo I could find and I think his quick release is special. Does he need time to develop? Sure. But like Mallett, he has a unique skill that I think made him especially intriguing to Belichick.

His arm reminds me somewhat of Russell Wilson. He doesn’t have Wilson’s escapability, but he has at least two inches on the Seahawk quarterback. Garoppolo just puts great zip on his passes and goes through his progressions quickly and confidently. He doesn’t seem to get rattled. He also has enough quickness and athleticism to make plays with his feet when things break down.

He’s a rootable player and I look forward to seeing how he progresses over the next couple of seasons. With his arm and quick decisions he would fit in well with how the Pats run their offense. He can throw the quick screens but also has enough arm strength to fling it down the field.

Aside from the obvious beard that would help him fit right in with the likes of Logan Mankins, Stork has interior versatility and great size to handle big-bodied defensive tackles. That’s something the Pats have struggled with in recent years with their collection of undersized technicians. Stork would immediately improve the depth at center and guard and could also develop into a starter before long.

The hardest thing is probably just the footwork,” Garoppolo said. “My footwork in college was: Catch the ball, one, two, three. Or maybe just set and throw at times. So getting used to the five- and seven-step drop, that’s been the biggest adjustment.

The situation we have at quarterback, we felt as an organization that we needed to address that to some degree in the future,” Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said. “See how that all works. I think you’re better being early rather than late at that position.
