You’ve been around the guys who have it, and this guy has it,” Quinn said. “Two, he really has some unique skills because of that unique quickness that he has. I think when you combine those two things — mentally strong and tough, and then add the initial quickness part of it — I think he’ll find his own role how he can help the team. I think once that starts to work itself out and when he gets healthy, he’ll be rolling.

“No matter where I was at I was a Patriot to the core. I might have been playing for another team because that’s the nature of the business, but in my heart deep down I was a Patriot. I’ve never signed my retirement papers because if I wasn’t signing as a New England Patriot I’m just going to walk off into the sunset, because my heart was there.
“Now, I can officially say the last time I’m gonna suit up, even though it’s with the red jacket, it’s going to be with the New England Patriots. My career has come full circle.”

FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: | Snap-Weighted Age: 2013 NFL Rosters

FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: | Snap-Weighted Age: 2013 NFL Rosters

Pats rankings skewed somewhat by Brady being the oldest guy on the team. Their ranks (oldest: 1st, youngest 32nd):

Overall: 22nd
Offense: 7th
Defense: 29th
Special Teams: 27th

So yeah, offensively they’re a little long in the tooth, Brady’s 37 is dragging that down because otherwise they’re pretty young across the board.

Defensively and on special teams they are close to the youngest in the NFL. That’s a very good sign, though it would seem the defense would be getting older this year if Wilfork/Kelly come back and play a significant role.

He logged 17.5 sacks in 30 games since entering the NFL in 2012, just three spots (1.5 sacks) outside the top 20 in that span. With 11.5 sacks in 2013, Jones finished ninth-best in the league.

Being a defensive end, I feel like the thing you look at is pass-rush ability. That’s what you get paid for. That’s one thing I like about him – he’s a great pass-rusher.

Chandler Jones on Will Smith. Sure hope Smith is still a great pass rusher. If he is… oh boy…

Closer look at the undrafted rookies the Pats have picked up continues with Delaware’s Travis Hawkins. Yes, the depth chart is packed at cornerback, so Hawkins will really have to shine on special teams and with versatility to make the cut.

I feel that he’s gonna bring something totally different to the table that the Patriots secondary hasn’t seen in a long time. He has that type of gift. He can cut off one side of the field and make everyone around him better. He’s hungry to be the best, and he is the best right now.
