We said No. 1 was Brady had to be kept off-balance,” said Giunta. “He is the best quarterback I’ve ever seen in terms of the total package. He is so patient. He will hold the ball until the last moment. If you give him time to throw, he will make the completion. That was one conclusion we came to. To have a chance we had to pressure Brady.

urgh i feel bad for even thinking about this but after 7 years i think I can finally digest some commentary on how the two games against the giants were played in 07. i guess i want to know, what approach did the two teams take against each other in the season finale and then how did that change or stay the same in dreadful number 42

I tried to take a look back at SB42 and couldn’t do it. Too painful still.

Check out this article, here’s a nugget, on what the Giants knew they had to do differently the second time around.

“One, we had to find ways to get more pressure on Brady. That was No. 1,” “Two, we couldn’t give up the big plays, especially to (Randy) Moss. He killed us. Three, we did an OK job on their screen passes, but we would have to be more disciplined in defending it because that is as vital to their offense as the long passes to Moss are. And four, limit the gap running plays, where the Patriots pull their offensive linemen. (Laurence) Maroney didn’t have a big game against, but a few of his runs hurt us.”

10 Weeks until real football. This is how I rank the “buzz” on the Pats games right now – 1. Broncos (11/2); 2. @ Packers (11/30); 3. @ Colts (11/16); 4. Jets (10/16); 5. Bengals (10/5); 6. @ Chiefs (9/29) 7. @ Chargers (12/7); 8. @ Dolphins (9/7); 9. Bears (10/26); 10. Lions (11/23); 11. @ Jets (12/21); 12. Dolphins (12/14); 13. @ Bills (10/12); 14. Bills (12/28); 15. @ Vikings (9/14); 16. Raiders (9/21)

Close to what I’d have:

  1. Broncos – obvs.
  2. Jets – love seeing Rex’s gameplan vs. Brady. Solid Jets defense will be challenging. Great rivalry.
  3. @ Colts – Andrew Luck has struggled twice in New England, now he gets a chance vs. Patriots in Indy.
  4. Bengals – They needed a monsoon in the fourth quarter to beat last year’s sputtering Pats early in season.
  5. Packers – the time of year you want to start playing your most solid football.
  6. @ Chargers – just because I’l be there. Should be a good game.
  7. @ Chiefs – Good test for our offensive line.
  8. @ Jets – might be meaningless by Christmas, but if it matters it would be a tough one.
  9. @ Dolphins – gonna be a hot opener. Physical test.
  10. Bears – Revis v. Marshall.
  11. Lions – Revis v. Calvin.
  12. @ Bills – Back-and-forth, down-to-the-end once again.
  13. Dolphins – Ending the Ryan Tannehil era.
  14. Vikings – Matt Caseel?
  15. Raiders – Hello Matt Schaub, good to see you.
  16. Bills – hopefully meaningless.

You can tell he really studies his opponent and really gets to know them. He’s a very, very strong guy. You try and mix it up with him, he’s just one of those super-natural really strong guys. You’re like ‘Dang, I really can’t do anything against this guy right now.’ He’s a great player and we’ll definitely have our work cut out for us. Hopefully he follows Demaryius [Thomas] around whenever we play them.

Welker on Revis.

Good stuff from The Sports Hub this morning in their talk with Welker. Nice that he can still come back and answer some questions. Like Vinatieri, once he hangs them up there’ll be nothing but love for Welker, but for now we must end him.
